Warren “Fred” Frederick Gardner, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022 at his residence.

He was born December 10, 1933 in Rush County to Ornie Gardner and Mary Alice (Krammes) Gardner Mahin.

Fred served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era. He was a member of the American Legion Post 70, VFW Post 2695 and the Shelbyville Elks Club. He worked at the Ford plant in Quality Control before retiring after 40 years of service. Fred attended church as a child with his mom. He was baptized at Lewis Creek Baptist Church when he was an adult. A no frills, organized man that was good at math and could fix anything. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and cutting grass, but his greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family and loved ones.

He married Kathy Ann (Lux) Gardner on November 25, 1987 and she survives. They spent 35 wonderful years together.

Fred is also survived by son, Douglas Alan Gardner (wife, Susie), daughter, Jane Elynn Godfrey (husband, Chris), step daughter, Lori Aviles, step daughter, Amy Gardner, grandsons; Matthew Alan Gardner (wife, Bekah), David Adam Gardner, Sean Christopher Godfrey, Andrew Kyle Godfrey, Gregory Alan Lindsey, Ryan David Lindsey (wife, Erica), Elsio Andrew Aviles, and granddaughter, Selena Nicole Aviles.

Military honors will be conducted by local veteran organizations.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 9am until 11am at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral services will be at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.

Burial will be in Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in the Hero’s of Honor and Glory section.

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, Stuart Parks, and Darin Schutt are honored to serve Fred’s family.
