Joan (Parson) Stoops, 77, of Cumberland

Joan (Parson) Stoops, 77, of Cumberland, passed away October 9, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born December 20, 1944, in Waynesburg, Kentucky, to Frank and Molly (Rose) Parson, and was 1 of 14 children. Joan was a graduate of Triton Central High School in Fairland, Indiana.

 

Joan married her husband Kenneth Dale Stoops on December 16, 1961, and has been blissfully married to him for 61 years. Joan was the matriarch that held her family together. She loved spending time with the grandchildren. She was an animal lover, enjoyed reaping the rewards of her husband’s yearly vegetable garden, loved cooking, and enjoyed going to the beach where she would discover all of the seashells. She liked to vacation on Sanibel Island. She loved to crochet and enjoyed camping and fishing. Chocolate-covered cherries were a favorite treat and Christmas was her favorite holiday with too many presents and jovial family surrounding her. She also enjoyed accompanying her husband to the casino. Joan retired after more than 25 years as a packer for Crossroads Dairy Processing Plant. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church where her husband was one of the founders.

 

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Kenny Stoops; three children: Tammy (Tony) Blackman, Tim Dale Stoops, and Kimmer (Don) Burchfield; eight grandchildren: Samantha Blackman, Jacob Blackman, Matt Dale Stoops, Debbie Stoops, Brittany Pennington, Rachal Gibson, Alex Strawder, and Wyatt Burchfield; and six great-grandchildren: Allistar Pennington, Willow Marie Pennington, Mikey Pennington, Teagan Clift, Addie Gibson, and Oliver Gibson.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and 12 siblings.

 

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, October 14, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home – Hendryx Chapel, 11636 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229.

 

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the same location, followed by interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.
