Kent D. Cherry, 61, of Waldron

Kent D. Cherry, 61, of Waldron, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at MHP Medical Center in Shelbyville.

He was born August 29, 1961, in Shelbyville, the son of Harold and Marian J. “June” (Anderson) Cherry.  On September 24, 1994, he married his wife of 28 years, Sharon Cox, and she survives.

In addition to Sharon, Kent is survived by his daughter, Amber (Cox) Myers of St. Paul; brother, Greg Cherry and wife, Tina, of Shelbyville; grandsons, Luke Myers and Wyatt Myers; and his fire department family.

Kent was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated in 1979 from Shelbyville High School.  Kent attended many courses in fire training, he also attended ITT Trade studying electronics.

Kent was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

He worked at ARCO Electric, a division of Kirby Risk, for over 30 years.

Kent was a very dedicated volunteer fireman.  He volunteered in many capacities for the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department, since joining in 1983.  Kent served as treasurer for over 20 years, Lieutenant for 10 years, investigator for 25 years and instructor for many years.  Thru his efforts in obtaining grants for the fire department, he secured $500,000 in funds to assist with the operations of the department.

He enjoyed boating, working on radios, being outdoors and all things related to the fire department.  Kent loved Indiana University sports, as well as, the Washington Redskins.

Kent especially loved to spend time with his grandsons.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with Nick Coulston officiating.
