Michael R. "Mike" Wright, 77, of Manilla

Michael R. “Mike” Wright, 77, of Manilla, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

He was born May 8, 1945, in Rushville, the son of Robert and Rosemary (Francis) Wright.  On December 24, 1967, he married Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Kuhn, and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2019.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Amanda K. Matheny and husband, Mark, of Columbus, and Abby L. Wright of Macomb, Illinois; bonus daughter, Erin Jessup and husband, Adam, of Laurel; brother, Phil Wright and wife, Norene, of Manilla; grandchildren, Ben Matheny and Mary Beth Jones and husband, Josh; sister-in-law, Linda Adkins and husband, Steve, of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, Calvin Kuhn and wife, Liz, of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition of Kathy, Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Wright and wife, Patty.

Mike graduated in 1963 from Manilla High School.  He attended Franklin and Indiana Business Colleges.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Church, where he served on the church council and on the Zion Cemetery board.  He was also a member of the Zion Hammers group.

Mike was a U.S. Army veteran, serving stateside during the Vietnam Era from 1965 to 1967.

He was a lifelong farmer.  Mike was formerly an auditor for the Indiana State Board of Accounts, with over 40 years of service.

Mike was also a member of the Rushville Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks; Rush County American Legion, and the Senior and Men’s golf leagues.

He loved to go golfing.  Mike enjoyed military history, Massey-Harris antique tractors, and watching sports.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Zion Evangelical Church, 7025 ECR 100 N, Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church, with Pastor Brad Schultz officiating.

Interment will be at Zion Cemetery in Shelby County.
