Martha Mae (Schilling) Sutherland, 93, Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022.

She was born on October 2, 1929, in Shelbyville to Carl and Ruth (Meloy) Schilling. Martha married her love William T. Sutherland on December 6, 1950.

Martha was a tremendously loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. She co-owned Sutherland’s Grocery along with her husband in New Palestine for many years before they sold the business. Alongside working at the grocery store, Martha was busy raising a family of 4 girls. She also enjoyed sewing, crafting, quilting, and flower gardening. Martha regularly enjoyed playing rummy with her daughter as often as possible. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Martha is survived by her loving daughters: Teresa (Jim) Whitton, Linda (Steve) Collins, Debra (Jim) Warren, and Karla (Jeff) King; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and beloved husband, William, of 37+ years.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, New Palestine chapel, 19 E. Main Street.
