John F. Werbe, Jr., 62, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022, at his home.

He was born July 14, 1960, in Indianapolis, the son of John F. Sr. and Sara (Dillman) Werbe.  On June 19, 1982, he married Mary Ann “Mimi” Mallica, and she survives.

In addition to Mary Ann, John is survived by his daughter, Susan Marie Werbe and significant other, Fredrick Taylor, of Indianapolis; son, John F. Werbe III and wife, Haley, of Shelbyville; brother, Joseph Werbe of Indianapolis; grandsons, John F. Werbe IV and James Michael Werbe; sister-in-law, Susan M. Mallica of Shelbyville; long-time friend and mentor, Bob Wortman of Morristown; and several nieces and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated in 1978 from Shelbyville High School, and attended Indiana State University.

John was a sales manager for J.R. Wortman Co. in Morristown, with over 40 years of service.

He attended West Street United Methodist Church.

John was a member of Shelbyville Rotary Club and Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 28 F&AM. 

He enjoyed watching sports, especially Indiana University basketball, Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears.

John loved being “Grampy” to his grandsons, and he cherished the family cookouts on game day.

A gathering of friends will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Masonic services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by the Celebration of John’s life.
