Joseph C. "Joe" Stewart, 90, of Shelbyville

Joseph C. "Joe" Stewart, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at MHP Medical Center.

 

Born November 15, 1932 in Shelby County, he was the son of Will W. Stewart and May Ellen (Conner) Stewart.  He married Gladys I. (Williams) Stewart on February 2, 1957, and she survives.

 

Other survivors include a brother Richard Stewart of St. Paul, and a  sister Mary Wicker of Shelbyville.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons- Jeff Stewart & Gary Stewart, twin sister Joyce McNeely, and a brother, William Stewart.

 

Mr. Stewart had lived most of his lifetime on this area, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1951.

 

He had been a fork lift driver with Kennedy Car Liner/KCL Corp. for 43 years, retiring in 1997.  He also had hung wallpaper for 20 years.  He was a US Army Korean War veteran, attaining the rank of Corporal.

 

He was a member of American Legion Post #70, and attended West St. United Methodist Church.

 

Joe enjoyed woodworking, camping, dancing, riding his motorcycle, and in earlier years, traveling with his

wife  Gladys.

 

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. 

 

Friends may call on Thursday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service. 

 

Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.

 

Memorial contributions can be made to the  American Heart Assn., in care of the funeral home.
