Sylvia Cox, 90, Greenfield

Sylvia Cox, 90, Greenfield, passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Sylvia was born on September 19, 1932, in Greenfield, England, to Alec and Ivy (Rook) Slater. She married her sweetheart, Brian Cox.

Sylvia and Brian moved to the U.S. in 1969. The found the perfect city of Greenfield, Indiana, matching their own city name to that in England. Once the City of Greenfield learned of such unique planning, they asked a news reporter at the Greenfield Reporter to publish an article about Sylvia and Brian and how and why they made their decision to keep the city names the same. While Sylvia was busy raising two boys, she was employed at Hancock Regional Hospital for many years, working in Central Supply, and retiring in 1994. Sylvia loved flower gardening, reading, and knitting. When she was younger, she loved to cook. After retirement, Sylvia and Brian would travel to Florida quite often to camp. They both were members of the American Legion. Sylvia was a member of Greenfield Friends’ Church.

Sylvia is survived by her son, Graeme (Debi) Cox and 4 grandchildren: Benjamin (Courtney) Cox, Blair (Nicole) Cox, Haley Cox, and Molly (Cody) Wilburn. Besides loving family members, Sylvia encountered many lovely friends along the way that will miss her dearly.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Brian of over 50 years; son, Barry Cox; and brother, Alec Slater.
