Preston J. Batta, 88, of Mt. Comfort

In his own words: Preston J. Batta, 88, of Mt. Comfort, was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on February 13, 1935 to Johnie A. and Pherne (Million) Batta.

He “crawled out on the roof” February 13, 2023.

He was a 1952 alumnus of Arsenal Technical High School.

He served in the Naval Reserve from 1952 to 1960 with active duty 1955 and 1956. He was sent to radar school and spent most of his time viewing the east coast on a radar scope. He owned and operated Batta Service Company 30 years, retiring in 2000. He enjoyed beer; traveling to many countries and states, including annual Hawaiian vacations for many years; and being a gentleman farmer in retirement.

He loved his family and having them all together, especially at Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July. We would usually get together once a week. He was a member of Moose Lodge 17, a 50 year member of F & AM, and Murat Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; first wife JoAnn (Silvey); and brother Larry W. Batta. He is survived by his wife, Valerie J. Wender; sons David of Indianapolis, Joseph (Pamela) of Greenfield, and daughter Christina (Jack) Ziebarth of Austin, Minnesota; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. In his later years he was ordained a minister and had the honor of performing the marriage ceremony of grandson Mark to Whitney.

Those who remember him, please raise a glass and wish him well on his journey to the other side of the rainbow. No tears, just memories. I love you all.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a worthy charity, such as Shriners Children’s Hospital, or to your favorite bar.
