Gary Lonn Weitzel, 80, of Manilla

Gary Lonn Weitzel, 80, of Manilla, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at his residence.

 

Born October 24, 1942 in LaCross, Wisconsin, to mother Leona and stepfather Marty Evers, Gary was raised by his grandparents Jake and Ethel Weitzel of Plain, Wisconsin. 

 

He married Vicki (Nickolas) Weitzel of Manilla on January 19, 1968 at the Manilla Christian  Church.  He had been a resident of Manilla since 1963.

 

Gary worked for Indiana Silo Co. for 18 years, and retired from Runnebohm Construction in 2006, after 23 years of service.  While living in Wisconsin, he helped on his grandparents farm and Royster Fertilizer in Madison, WI., and also worked at the cheese factory of Hun Smith and Sumner Carpenter.  In the mornings he hauled milk for Meister's in Plain, WI.  He also sold Rochester Silos and worked for Leon Richart selling snowmobiles and equipment.

 

Surviving are two sons- Travis Weitzel (wife Kriste) of Homer, Toma Weitzel (wife Tracy) of Manilla; grandchildren- Ciara Bertram (husband Ryan), Paige Weitzel, T.J. Weitzel; step-granddaughters- Ashley Wissler, Alyx Jones and Haley Shoffner; great granddaughter Gabby; great grandsons- Hudson, Greyson and Emmett; siblings- Maureen (husband Rod) Kinnard, MaryAnn (husband John) Collar, Jodi (husband Larry) Collar, Scott Evers, Joe (wife Betsy) Evers, Suzie (husband Kurt) Vandenheuvel all of Wisconsin and Cyndi (husband Keith) Sorenson of Illinois;

half siblings- Mary Jane (husband Ed) Liegel, Teresa (husband Dan) Lin, Judy Diehl and Emil Diehl of Wisconsin; best friends Dave & Darlene Meixelsperger, Dorothy Bowell, Nancy (husband John) Haehl and Sue Taves of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his son Trampas, grandparents, mother and father in law, mom and step-dad, brother Johnny, friends Lori & Linda, Bob Bowell and best friend Mike (Stretch) Beyer.

 

Gary was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan. He loved doing concrete

work with his sons, feeding the birds and wild rabbits. He enjoyed watching Judge Judy, westerns, Heat of the Night, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. Gary owns stock in the Green Bay Packers,  and was a life member of North American Hunting Club. 

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Scott Sharp officiating.

 

Burial will be in Manilla Cemetery. Friends may  call on Monday, March 27 from 4:00-8:00 pm, at the funeral home.

 

Memorial contributions can be made to the Manilla Volunteer Fire Department or Hospice of South Central Indiana, in care of the funeral home.
