Melvin Glenn Gordy, 83, of Shelbyville

Melvin Glenn Gordy, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully at his home in his sleep on Friday, April 7, 2023.

 

He was born September 12, 1939 in Worthville ,KY to Robert Lee Gordy and Elizabeth Reynolds.

 

Melvin was employed at Brazeway before retiring after 28 years of service. He also served as a Shelbyville Auxillary Police Officer in the 1960’s.

 

Melvin was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Indiana.  He was an avid euchre player.  He was HUGE Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds Fans. Loved NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed his nightly ice cream. Most of all Melvin was a very loving Father and enjoyed being with his Family.

 

He is survived by his Sons, Gary (wife, Freda) Walters of North Carolina, David (wife, Lanna) Gordy of Waldron, and Billy Gordy of Alabama, his daughters, Melissa Gordy of Alabama, Tammie Newkirk, and Christy (wife, Brenda) Gordy all of Indianapolis, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his sister, Alene G Turner of Kentucky, and his brother, Robert Gordy of North Carolina, Best Friends Allen Rodgers and Jack Bassett of Shelbyville. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.

 

A Celebration of Life with dinner will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #766 in Shelbyville, Indiana. Melvin was a member there for over 38 years.

 

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176. 

 

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Nick Coulston officiating. 

 

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, Stuart Parks, and Darin Schutt are honored to serve Melvin’s family.
