Teresa Gail Hockersmith, 59, Connersville

Teresa Gail Hockersmith, 59, of Connersville passed away with family by her side late Thursday evening, February 21, 2019, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

 

The only child of Harold and Jeannette Sparks Good, Teresa was born in Connersville on July 12, 1959, and graduated from Connersville High School with the class of 1977.

 

On September 2, 1978, Teresa married William Dean Hockersmith in First United Methodist Church.  Mr. Hockersmith survives.

 

Teresa was employed at Garfield’s and Endicott & Johnson shoe stores for several years and at Visteon for over 15 years.

 

In her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting and making afghans.  Teresa had a love for nature and enjoyed walking outdoors and watching animals, along with vacationing with her husband.

 

Besides her husband of over 40 years, William Hockersmith, survivors include three sisters-in-law, Maria (Dan) Gabbard of Shelbyville, Indiana, Teresa Steele of Connersville, and Ann Hockersmith of Greenfield, Indiana; cousins, Sheila and Ronnie Henry, Joyce and Larry Puckett, and Teresa Worrell, all of Irvine, Kentucky.

 

Teresa is preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Ron Hockersmith; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home.  Reverend Gwen Pew will officiate. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.

Peter Sidney Hooper, 79, Shelbyville

Peter Sidney Hooper, 79, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at his residence.

 

He was born February 15, 1940, in London, England, the son of Edward and Flora (Lovell) Hooper.

 

On September 24, 1961, he married his wife of 57 years, Marion Peek, and she survives.

 

In addition to Marion, Peter is survived by his son, Richard Hooper of Shelbyville; daughter, Louise Hooper of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Audrey Thomson and husband, Alec, of Northampton, England; brother, Arthur Hooper and wife, Elaine, of Northampton, England; grandchildren, Hayley Hooper, Melanie Hooper and Cameo Polk; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Peter graduated in 1956 from Bishop Holt High School.

 

He was a welder for Carl Mohr Construction from 1981, until retiring in 2015.

 

Peter enjoyed woodworking.

 

Private family services will be observed.

 

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Helen M. Weaver, 94, Shelbyville

Helen M. Weaver, 94, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Sullivan, IN.

 

She was born September 5, 1924, in Hope, IN to George C. and Della D. (Danner) Burnes.

 

She married Earl L. Weaver on October 5, 1940 and he preceded her in death in September of 1994.

 

Mrs. Weaver is survived by her son, Robert (Kathy) Weaver of Shelbyville; daughter, Phyllis (Ronnie) Scott of Farmersburg; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; her sister Naomi Heuer of Waldron and daughter-in-law, Rita Weaver of Shelbyville.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters, and 2 sons, Lewis Weaver and Richard Weaver.

 

Mrs. Weaver attended Hope High School.  She was a member of Bengal Christian Church and a member of the Lady’s Aide at the church.  She was a homemaker and member of the Hendricks’s Township Home Ec. Club.  She loved to play euchre.

 

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Adams officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Lewis Creek Cemetery.
