Shelbyville softball wins fifth straight to improve to 8-1

Powered by a pair of Katie Mathies home runs and a complete-game performance from Hailey Pogue in the circle, Shelbyville softball collected its fifth-straight win Thursday and improved to 8-1 overall with a 14-1 victory over Rushville.

 

Pogue scattered four hits over five innings of work and struck out eight.

 

Mathies went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and five runs batted in. The senior now has seven home runs this season and 22 RBIs.

 

Maddie Campton had three hits and two RBIs.

 

Karissa Hamilton bashed her team-leading 10th home run of the season. She also leads the team in RBIs with 23.

 

Kylee Edwards and Addisenn Weaver each had two hits.

 

Kara Chandler took the loss for Rushville (3-3). Briley Munchel had two of the Lions’ four hits.

 

The Golden Bears returns to Hoosier Heritage Conference play today when Delta (4-5, 1-1 HHC)

visits. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

 

On Saturday, Shelbyville travels to Class 3A, No. 1-ranked Yorktown (5-1, 0-1 HHC).
