Southwestern baseball climbs to No. 2 in state coaches poll

Southwestern High School’s baseball team climbed to No. 2 in the Class A state coaches poll released today.

 

The Spartans were 5-0 heading into Saturday’s two-game set at South Dearborn against the host Knights and Class A, No. 1 Oldenburg Academy.

 

Southwestern never got on track, losing to South Dearborn 13-2, and Oldenburg Academy 17-3.

 

Southwestern will attempt to get back in the win column today when it hosts Greenwood Christian.

 

Following the Spartans in the Class A poll are Kouts, Riverton Parke, Rossville, Fremont, Daleville, Shakamak, Wes-Del and Borden.

 

Monroe Central sits on top of the 2A poll followed by Wapahani, Lafayette Central Catholic, Cascade, Clinton Prairie, South Adams, Eastern (Greentown), Centerville, University and Forest Park.

 

Lebanon is the leader in 3A ahead of West Vigo, Hanover Central, Silver Creek, Western, Peru, Franklin County, Evansville Memorial, Leo and Madison.

 

Columbus North is No. 1 in 4A for the second straight week. The Bull Dogs are followed in the rankings by Westfield, Evansville North, Cathedral, Center Grove, Castle, Homestead, Zionsville, Hobart and Carmel.
