Golden Bears take two from Columbus East

Shelbyville softball ran its winning streak to 11 straight and improved to 14-1 with a pair of dominant victories Friday over visiting Columbus East.

 

The Class 4A, 14th-ranked Golden Bears won game one, 11-5, and cruised to a 22-1 win in game two.

 

Cheyenne Eads surrendered a leadoff home run to Kenzie Foster in game one but settled in and delivered five strong innings in the circle. She allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out four to collect the win.

 

Hailey Pogue pitched the final two innings to seal the victory.

 

Kylee Edwards, Katie Mathies and Addisenn Weaver each had three hits for Shelbyville.

 

Edwards had a triple and a home run, her fourth of the season.

 

Maddie Campton collected her fifth home run of the season.

 

Shelbyville broke open a 2-1 game with a five-run bottom of the third inning.

 

Foster also had a double and three runs batted in during a 3-for-4 performance for the Olympians (2-13).

 

In game two, the Golden Bears put up six runs in the home half of the first inning and never trailed, scoring 10 times in the second and six more in the third.

 

Ten different Golden Bears had a hit in the win. Kylie McIver, Eads and Pogue each went 3-for-4.

 

Weaver was 3-for-3 with six RBIs. She had two doubles and a home run. McIver and Pogue each had three RBIs.

 

Weaver’s home run was her fifth this season. McIver delivered her fifth.

 

Kaylie Phelps became the eighth Golden Bear to hit a home run this year.

 

Brooke Lipperd picked up the win, allowing five hits and one earned run.

 

Shelbyville has three road games scheduled this week.

 

On Tuesday, the Golden Bears (4-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference) travel to Greenfield-Central (10-2, 1-0 HHC).

 

Class 4A, No. 5 New Palestine (12-0, 1-0 HHC) hosts Shelbyville Thursday.

 

The week ends Friday with a road trip to Batesville (6-4).
