Shelbyville softball cracks top 10 in latest state coaches poll

Riding an 11-game winning streak and a new berth in the top 10 of the state coaches poll, Shelbyville softball travels north to Greenfield-Central today.

 

At 14-1, the Golden Bears cracked the top 10 for the first time this season in the latest poll.

 

Roncalli remains No. 1 in Class 4A, powered by the pitching of Keagan Rothrock, a University of Florida commit who is ranked No. 1 in the graduating class of 2023. The Golden Bears are scheduled to play at Roncalli on May 11.

 

Lake Central is No. 2 followed by Mooresville, New Palestine – Shelbyville’s opponent Thursday, and Crown Point.

 

The second five include Bedford North Lawrence, Center Grove, Decatur Central, Jasper and Shelbyville.

 

Other notables in the 4A poll include Franklin Central (No. 11), Mt. Vernon (No. 17), Franklin (No. 19), Pendleton Heights (No. 22), Columbus North (No. 22) and Greenfield-Central (No. 25).

 

Loogootee and Lanesville are tied atop the Class A poll. Hauser is ranked 7th.

 

Tecumseh is No. 1 in 2A. Eastern Hancock is 8th.

 

Danville leads the 3A poll. Yorktown is ranked 4th.

 

Shelbyville’s high-powered offense is averaging 12.1 runs per game this season.

 

Karissa Hamilton, a University of Kentucky commit, leads the way with a .723 batting average. The junior also has team-highs in hits (34), home runs (14), runs batted in (37), walks (8) and runs scored (35).

 

Senior Katie Mathies, a DePauw commit, is hitting .688 with team-highs in doubles (10) and triples (3), and has eight home runs and 30 RBIs.

 

Sophomore Kylee Edwards, a highly-ranked college prospect, is batting .519 from the leadoff position with six doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.

 

Senior Addisenn Weaver, a Valparaiso commit, is hitting .500 with seven doubles, five home runs and 23 RBIs.

 

Freshman Cheyenne Eads makes five Golden Bears hitting over .450 this season. She is at .471 with three doubles and two home runs.

 

Eads is 6-1 in the pitcher’s circle with a 3.56 earned run average over 39 innings of work.

Hailey Pogue, a sophomore, is 5-0 with a 3.45 ERA.

 

Brooke Lipperd, a junior committed to Franklin College, is 3-0 with a 4.07 ERA.
