Collegiate update: Young honored at IU South Bend Senior Day

Logan Young was 1-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base and a run batted in Sunday in Indiana University South Bend’s 13-8 Senior Day loss to Roosevelt at Four Winds Field, home of the South Bend Cubs, in South Bend, Indiana.

 

The Titans swept a Tuesday doubleheader at Lincoln College, 8-0 and 4-3.

 

Young, a Shelbyville graduate (photo), was 1-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs in game one and threw one scoreless inning of relief in game two.

 

The Titans are 19-21 this season.

Natalie Weber

 

The Shelbyville graduate celebrated her Senior Day Tuesday at Franklin College going 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI in an 8-0 win over Anderson.

 

Weber followed that with a 2-for-4 performance in a 4-3 win in game two of the doubleheader.

 

On Friday, Weber had a solo home run and two RBIs in an 8-6 win vs. Manchester.

 

At Washington (Mo.) Sunday, Weber had a two-run home run and a double in a 5-1 victory for Franklin.

 

The Grizzlies are 17-9 this season.

 

Madisen Hinderliter

 

The Shelbyville graduate won the hammer throw (38.4 meters) and finished fourth in the discus (30.81 meters) for St. Francis (Ind.) Saturday in the Huntington University Invite in Huntington, Ind.

 

Erin Diemer

 

The Shelbyville graduate placed sixth in the pole vault competition for Southern Illinois University Friday at the Clark Wood Open in Louisville, Kentucky.

 

Kyler Schalk

 

The Triton Central graduate took 12th in the 100 meters (11.58 seconds), 19th in the 200 (23.87) and eighth in the long jump (20 feet, 1.5 inches) for Wabash College Friday in the Big Blue Open hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.

 

Daniela Joseph

 

The Shelbyville graduate carded rounds of 102 and 107 for Earlham College’s women’s golf team Friday and Saturday in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship held at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Club in Harrison, Ohio.

 

Morgan Stieneker

 

The Shelbyville graduate was 3-for-6 with three runs scored Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep for Olney Central College at Rend Lake College.

 

Olney won game one, 8-0, and took game two, 5-3, to improve to 20-22 this season.

 

On Monday, Stieneker was 5-for-6 with two runs scored in a pair of victories over Southwestern Illinois College.

 

 

Indiana Tech Invite

 

Kaden Branam, a Waldron graduate (photo), finished fourth in the high jump competition Friday at the Indiana Tech Invite in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 

Branam cleared 6-6.25 in an event that featured two more Shelby County graduates.

 

Steffen Shackelford, a Southwestern graduate, placed eighth with a best clearance of 6-2.25.

 

Chandler Martin, a Shelbyville graduate, finished ninth, also clearing 6-2.25.

 

Joe Lux, a Shelbyville graduate, finished 31st in the 800 (2:11.83) for Indiana Tech.

 

 

Friday Night Twilight Meet

 

Southwestern graduate Taylor Tatlock (photo) threw the javelin a personal best 118-08 for Franklin College Friday to win the event hosted by Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Ind.

 

The distance was a new personal best for Tatlock and moved her to third all-time on FC’s outdoor track and field record board.

 

She also finished 15th in the hammer throw (82-08) and fourth in the discus (106-09).

 

Dalen Williams, a Waldron graduate, finished second in the discus at 137-07, a new personal best, and third in the javelin (135-07) for Franklin College.

 

Kenneth Gipson, a Triton Central graduate, finished seventh in the discus (108-11) for Rose-Hulman.

 

Jill Anspaugh, a Shelbyville graduate, finished 10th in the 3,000 (12:22.96) for Franklin.

 

Zaleeya Martin posted a pair of personal bests for Hanover College.

 

The Shelbyville graduate finished sixth in the 200 (26.7) and third in the long jump (16-5.25) – both personal bests – and finished runner-up in the 100 (12.59).

 

She also was part of Hanover’s third-place finishing 400 relay team (51.81).
