Hanover's Martin, Franklin College's Tatlock capture HCAC track titles

A pair of Shelby County high school graduates won individual events at the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.

 

Shelbyville graduate Zaleeya Martin won the 100-meter dash in 12.65 seconds, the 200 in 25.63 and was part of Hanover’s winning 400 meter relay squad (50.9).

 

Martin also scored points for Hanover in the long jump, finishing seventh (16 feet, 0.5 inches).

 

Hanover placed third in the team standings with 128 points, trailing Rose-Hulman (215) and Manchester (147).

 

Taylor Tatlock (above photo, right), a Southwestern graduate, won the women’s javelin competition for Franklin College with a personal best throw of 121-07, which moved her up to second on the program’s career-best list.

 

Tatlock also finished third in the discus (new personal best 114-09) and 15th in the hammer throw (97-04).

 

Waldron graduate Dalen Williams, also competing for Franklin College, finished runner-up to teammate Zak Wiley (above photo, left) in the discus throw. Williams’ best distance was 130-03.

 

Williams also finished eighth in the javelin at 129-02.

 

Triton Central graduate Kenneth Gipson placed 11th in the discus for Rose-Hulman at 109-07.

 

Waldron graduate Andrew Montgomery, running for Franklin, finished 17th in the 1,500 meters (4:50.39).

 

Shelbyville graduate Jill Anspaugh, also a distance runner for Franklin, finished ninth in the 5,000 meters (21:18.92).

 

Franklin finished seventh in both the men’s and women’s team standings.

 

Rose-Hulman also won the men’s team title with 210.5 points. Manchester (161) and Transylvania (79.5) followed in the standings.
