Shelbyville softball continues to climb in the state coaches poll

Following a dominant week in which it defeated three top-10 opponents, New Palestine ascended to the top of the Class 4A State Coaches Poll.

 

The Dragons defeated Center Grove, Shelbyville and top-ranked Roncalli last week to jump from No. 4 to No. 1 in the standings.

 

Lake Central is No. 2 followed by Roncalli, Mooresville and Crown Point.

 

Center Grove leads the second five with Shelbyville up to No. 7 – its highest ranking this season.

Completing the top 10 are Bedford North Lawrence, Decatur Central and Jasper.

 

Other notables in the top 25 are Pendleton Heights (No. 15), Mt. Vernon (No. 16), Franklin (No. 18) and Columbus North (No. 22).

 

Mt. Vernon is scheduled to be Shelbyville’s opponent today. The Golden Bears will face Columbus North in the opening game of the sectional tournament later this month.

 

Danville is No. 1 in Class 3A. Edgewood, Geurin Catholic, Yorktown and Benton Central complete the top five.

 

Tecumseh is the top-ranked team in Class 2A followed by Union County, Pioneer, North Posey and Eastern (Greentown). Eastern Hancock is seventh in the poll.

 

Loogootee holds a slim margin in Class A over Caston, South Central (Union Mills) and Lanesville. Clay City is ranked fifth. Hauser is seventh.
