Collegiate update: Diemer soars to personal best at Rock Chalk Classic

Erin Diemer soared to a new personal record height and moved into the No. 2 spot on the Southern Illinois record board for pole vaulters.

 

Competing Saturday at the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, Diemer, a Shelbyville graduate, cleared 13 feet, 5.75 inches to take runner-up in the event.

 

That height also moved her to No. 2 all-time on the outdoor track and field record board at Southern Illinois.

 

Here is a look at other Shelby County graduates competing at the collegiate level.

 

TeAnn Bringle

 

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run batted in to help Indiana State softball defeat Missouri State, 7-3, Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.

 

The Sycamores lost the opener of the 3-game series, 11-1, and the finale, 8-7.

 

Indiana State is 18-25 this season.

 

Logan Young

 

The Shelbyville graduate went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and a RBI Sunday in Indiana University South Bend’s 14-6 win over St. Ambrose to close out the regular season.

 

The Titans finished 23-22, the first winning season in the program’s six-year history.

 

On Saturday, IU South Bend defeated St. Ambrose, 7-4 and 8-1. Young went 4-for-8 with a pair of doubles. He also pitched a scoreless ninth inning in the 8-1 victory.

 

The Titans finished fourth in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings and will face No. 5 seed St. Francis Friday at 11 a.m. in the CCAC Tournament played in Joliet, Illinois.

 

Natalie Weber

 

The Shelbyville graduate went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI Saturday in Franklin College’s 3-2 win at Defiance.

 

She then went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in a 4-3 loss in game two at Defiance.

 

Kaden Branam

 

The Waldron graduate finished runner-up in the high jump competition for Indiana Tech at the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship held in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 

Branam cleared 1.99 meters to secure runner-up points for his Indiana Tech squad that won the team title.

 

Joe Lux

 

The Shelbyville graduate placed 21st in the 800 (2:13.07) for Indiana Tech at the conference championship meet in Fort Wayne.

 

Madisen Hinderliter

 

The Shelbyville graduate finished seventh in the discus (33.98 meters) and eighth in the hammer throw (34.12 meters) for St. Francis at the Lancer Invitational hosted by Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind.

 

Morgan Stieneker

 

The Shelbyville graduate went 1-for-3 with two RBIs Sunday in a 5-4 win for Olney Central College over John A. Logan College.

 

With the win, OCC evened its season record at 23-23.
