Southwestern girls track and field captures first MHC title

 With 10 event wins, Southwestern's girls track and field team captured its first ever Mid-Hoosier Conference track and field meet championship Tuesday at Waldron High School.

 

Abby Muck, Lilly Rooks, Alison Muck and Riley Engel were multiple event winners for the Spartans.

 

Abby Muck won the 100-meter dash (12.82 seconds) and the 200 (26.72) and ran the anchor leg for the winning 400 relay team (52.78).

 

Rooks took first place in the 400 (1:04.79), the long jump (16 feet, five inches) and was part of the winning 400 relay and 1,600 relay teams.

 

Alison Muck won the 100 hurdles (16.46) and the high jump (5-1) and ran the leadoff leg for the 400 relay team.

 

Also winning events for Southwestern were Kennedy Pile (30-1.5 in shot put) and Trinity Tatlock (92-11 in discus).

 

The 400 relay team consisted of Alison Muck, Engel, Rooks and Abby Muck.

 

Maggie Correll, Engel, Rooks and Gracie Schlabach made up the winning 1,600 relay team.

 

The Spartans' 155 team points left South Decatur (125), Morristown (99), North Decatur (80), Waldron (52), Hauser (49) and Edinburgh (10) in pursuit.

 

Morristown's Raegan Kleine won the 1,600 in 6:09.34.

 

Waldron's Hallie Ross won the 3,200 (14:15.85).

 

Morristown's Alison Batton crossed the finish line first in the 300 hurdles (52.36).

 

The Morristown quartet of Rylee Kleine, Gracie Laster, Raegan Kleine and Maggie Lutes won the 3,200 relay in 10:55.52.

 

The only non-Shelby County athlete to win an event was Hauser's Marnie Schwartzkopf. She took first in the 800 in 2:39.59.
