Triton Central tennis wins fourth-straight sectional title

Triton Central captured its fourth-straight Shelbyville Tennis Sectional title Friday with a 4-1 victory over the host Golden Bears.

 

The Tigers won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and swept both doubles matches to secure the victory and a berth in the Center Grove Regional Tuesday.

 

Triton Central, 16-0 this season, will face Roncalli in one semifinal match. The other semifinal pits No. 8 Center Grove vs. Southport.

 

Triton Central got dominant singles performances Friday from Brooklyn Schiffli and Julia Sanders.

 

Schiffli defeated Shelbyville’s Gabbie Knox, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

 

Sanders topped Jaidyn Tackett at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

 

Grace Coomes got the lone Golden Bears’ victory at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Lelia Chougule.

 

At No. 1 doubles, Ainsley Denton and Kelsey McGuire defeated Adeline Haacker and Emma Sandman, 6-1, 6-4.

 

The No. 2 doubles match went back and forth before TC’s Emma Hutchinson and Alyssa Wheatley bested Karlie Lawson and Renee Aldridge, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 10-7.

 

Waldron’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Megan Bogemann and Mackenzie Shaw also advanced out of the Shelbyville Sectional with a win Thursday. The duo will compete at Center Grove in the sectional round of the state doubles tournament.
