Madison Phares hit a pair of three-pointers and Kylee Edwards scored seven of her game-high 18 points to lead Shelbyville to its third Hoosier Heritage Conference win of the season Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears defeated Yorktown, 43-33, to improve to 8-9 this season and 3-2 in the HHC – good enough for fourth place in the conference standings.
Shelbyville built a 17-10 lead after the first quarter and opened it to 24-14 by halftime.
Phares and Edwards each hit a 3 in the third quarter to offset a pair by Yorktown’s Amari Wright and the Golden Bear lead was 36-24 by the end of the quarter.
Edwards added nine rebounds, four assists and two steals for Shelbyville.
Ava Wilson had 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Madison Bassett added four points and seven rebounds. Phares finished with nine points.
Wright topped Yorktown (3-12, 1-4 HHC) with 16 points. Raya Tewari finished with seven.
Shelbyville’s junior varsity improved to 12-2 this season with a 36-20 victory.
The Golden Bears return to action Tuesday when they host Rushville (10-8) at Garrett Gymnasium.
Shelbyville is at Mt. Vernon (10-6, 2-1 HHC) Saturday.
