County tourney title keeps Waldron ranked No. 2 in latest girls basketball poll

With its Shelby County Tournament title Saturday night, Waldron solidified itself in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association basketball poll.

The Mohawks, now 16-1, remain at No. 2 behind Lanesville (17-1) for a second straight week in the Class A poll.

Completing the top 10 are Lafayette Central Catholic (14-3), Jac-Cen-Del (13-4), Tecumseh (10-6), Blue River (14-2), Vincennes Rivet (13-4), Trinity Lutheran (10-5), North White (12-4) and Northeast Dubois (12-3).

Top-ranked Lanesville is at No. 8 Trinity Lutheran Tuesday.

No. 4 Jac-Cen-Del returns to Shelby County Friday to face Southwestern.

Waldron travels to Class 2A, No. 9 Eastern Hancock Saturday.

Unbeaten South Central (Union Mills) (17-0) is No. 1 in Class 2A ahead of Winchester (16-1), Tipton (15-1), Eastbrook (12-2), Forest Park (14-2), Fairfield (14-2), Triton Central (15-3), University (12-2), Eastern Hancock (13-2) and Frankton (12-4).

Triton Central was defeated by Waldron Saturday night in the championship game of the Shelby County Tournament. The loss dropped the Tigers one spot in this week’s poll.

The top-ranked team in Class 3A continues to be South Bend Washington (16-2).

Garrett (16-1) is No. 2 ahead of Benton Central (19-0), Silver Creek (16-1), Mishawaka Marian (14-3), Jay County (13-2), Hamilton Heights (13-4), Norwell (13-4), Washington (15-3) and Twin Lakes (14-4).

Homestead (15-1) jumps from No. 4 to No. 1 in this week’s Class 4A poll.

Bedford North Lawrence (16-1) is No. 2 with Franklin (18-1), Crown Point (13-2), Noblesville (14-3), Westfield (14-3), North Central (15-5), Fishers (13-4), Columbia City (16-0) and Fort Wayne Snider (12-2) completing the top 10.
