Wrestling: Golden Bears, Tigers compete at conference tournaments

Triton Central’s Ayden Nufio and Hadyn Ball each secured runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes Saturday in the Indiana Crossroads Conference Tournament at Monrovia.

Nufio started the tournament 2-0 to reach the championship match at 106 pounds where he was defeated by Monrovia’s Gavin Ash, who is ranked 14th in the state poll.

Ball similarly went 2-0 to reach the title match at 182 pounds where he was defeated by Cascade’s Liam Farmer, who is ranked 23rd at 170 pounds.

 

 

Triton Central had a trio of third-place finishers in Dayne Bailey (113), Marcos Davis (132) and Isaak Booth (170). All three completed the event with a 3-1 record.

Jaden Ferris (138) and Tristan Gibbons (160) each placed fourth and Austin Myers was sixth.

Cascade won the ICC title with 271 points. Monrovia was second at 237.5 to finish ahead of Beech Grove (236), Lutheran (140), Triton Central (114), Scecina (78), Speedway (45) and Ritter (38).

Triton Central will return to action Saturday at the Ritter Invitational.

Hoosier Heritage Conference Meet

At Yorktown, three Golden Bears placed fourth and three more were sixth.

Isaiah Havens (113), Carson Linville (170) and Elias Jones (285) advanced to the third-place matches at the conference meet but did not collect a win to finish fourth.

 

 

Ethan Watkins (126), Tarik Runnebohm (138) and Jacob Harker (220) were defeated in the fifth-place matches.

Greenfield-Central won the HHC title with 207 points. Mt. Vernon was runner-up at 193 with New Palestine (181.5), Yorktown (174.5), Pendleton Heights (152), Delta (148), New Castle (111.5) and Shelbyville (63) completing the field.

The Golden Bears will host Rushville Thursday for a dual match.
