Waldron rises again to No. 1 in Class A girls basketball poll

A win over a top 10 team in Class 2A has vaulted Waldron back to the top of the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association’s Class A basketball poll.

Waldron defeated 2A No. 9 Eastern Hancock 55-44 Saturday to improve to 18-1 this season. That victory propelled the Mohawks over Lanesville, who was ranked No. 1 for the last two weeks.

Waldron and Lanesville (20-1) are No. 1 and No. 2 in Class A ahead of Lafayette Central Catholic (15-4), Blue River (16-2), Jac-Cen-Del (14-5), Tecumseh (11-7), Vincennes Rivet (15-4), Trinity Lutheran (12-6), Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian (14-6) and Northeast Dubois (12-4).

Despite losing three of its last four games, Triton Central (15-4) remains in the top 10 in the Class 2A poll.

Unbeaten South Central (Union Mills) (19-0) is No. 1 in 2A ahead of Winchester (17-1), Eastbrook (14-2), Tipton (16-3), University (15-2), Forest Park (15-3), Fairfield (15-2), Triton Central, Frankton (14-4) and Cascade (15-3).

Eastern Hancock (13-4) is No. 11 in this week’s poll.

South Bend Washington (19-2) continues its reign atop the Class 3A poll.

Garrett (20-1) is No. 2 followed by Benton Central (21-0), Silver Creek (18-1), Jay County (16-2), Hamilton Heights (15-4), Norwell (15-4), Washington (17-3), Mishawaka Marian (15-5) and Twin Lakes (16-4).

Homestead (17-1) continues as No. 1 in Class 4A ahead of Franklin (19-1), Crown Point (16-2), Bedford North Lawrence (17-2), Westfield (16-3), Noblesville (15-4), North Central (16-5), Fishers (14-4), Zionsville (15-5) and Columbus East (15-3).
