Golden Bears soar past Jets to end regular season with three straight wins

Shelbyville nearly matched its season scoring average in the first half Thursday at Hauser.

The Golden Bears’ 41 first-half points netted a 41-23 lead and they rolled to a 71-38 win against the Jets (10-12) in their regular-season finale.

Shelbyville came into the game averaging 45 points per game and finished with a season-high 71 points.

Kylie Edwards scored 26 points to get Shelbyville back to .500 at 11-11. It is the first time Shelbyville has been at least .500 to close out a regular season since 2016.

Madison Phares had 11 points. Madison Bassett finished with eight and Ava Wilson had seven.

The Golden Bears closed the regular season with three straight victories to get back to .500 before the postseason starts.

Shelbyville’s junior varsity closed out its season Thursday with a 37-15 win over the Jets to finish 16-3.

Shelbyville travels to Franklin Central Tuesday for a Class 4A, Sectional 13 opener against 4A No. 2 Franklin (22-1).

The Golden Bears lost at Franklin, 67-28, on Dec. 18.

The winner advances to face Central Grove (12-9) Friday in the semifinal round.

In the other half of the sectional, Whiteland (6-15) takes on Greenwood (11-10) Tuesday with the winner moving into the semifinal round to face Franklin Central (5-15).
