Waldron ends regular season ranked No. 1 in Class A poll

For the first time in program history, Waldron finishes the regular season as the top-ranked team in Class A.

In the final Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll of 2022, Waldron (20-1) is ranked No. 1 ahead of No. 2 Lanesville (22-1), who was ranked No. 1 in the first poll of the season.

Waldron and Lanesville could meet in the Class A South Semistate on Feb. 19.

Lafayette Central Catholic (19-4) is ranked No. 3 and the favorite to represent the northern part of the state in the IHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship Game on Feb. 26 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Blue River Valley (21-2) is No. 4 followed by Jac-Cen-Del (17-6), Vincennes Rivet (17-6), Tecumseh (13-8), North White (16-6), Washington Township (15-5) and Northeast Dubois (16-5).

Jac-Cen-Del and Waldron could meet for a second time this season Saturday night in the Class A sectional championship game at Waldron. The Mohawks won the first meeting, 51-48, on Dec. 7 at Waldron.

Waldron is 7-0 against potential Sectional 60 opponents this season.

The only unbeaten team in the state, South Central (Union Mills), is the No. 1 team in Class 2A. The Satellites are 23-0 under first-year coach Ben Anderson.

Winchester (20-1) is No. 2 ahead of Eastbrook (19-2), Fairfield (19-3), Tipton (19-4), University (18-4), Triton Central (19-4), Cascade (18-4), Forest Park (19-3) and Pioneer (19-4).

Eastern Hancock (16-6) is ranked No. 12 and will face Triton Central in the sectional semifinal round Friday at Heritage Christian High School.

If Triton Central wins the sectional, the Tigers would head to the Southmont Regional that should include either No. 6 University of No. 8 Cascade, which are in the same sectional.

South Bend Washington (20-3) held on to the top ranking in Class 3A all season.

Garrett (23-1) is No. 2 followed by Benton Central (23-1), Silver Creek (20-2), Norwell (18-4), Jay County (20-3), Washington (20-3), Hamilton Heights (15-5), Mishawaka Marian (18-5), Evansville Memorial (19-4) and Twin Lakes (18-5).

Homestead (21-1) ends the regular season as the No. 1 team in Class 4A.

Franklin (22-1) is No. 2 ahead of Bedford North Lawrence (20-2), Crown Point (19-3), Noblesville (18-4), Westfield (18-4), Fishers (18-4), Columbus East (17-3), North Central (18-6) and Fort Wayne Snider (17-3).

Franklin opens the Franklin Central Sectional Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Shelbyville (11-11).
