Shelbyville softball ranked No. 6 in state coaches poll

With just one loss this season, Shelbyville High School’s softball program is ranked No. 6 in the state in this week’s Softball Coaches Association of Indiana poll.

Roncalli, the defending state champion, is ranked No. 1 in the Class 4A poll followed by Lake Central, Columbus North, New Palestine, Noblesville, Shelbyville (6-1), Pendleton Heights, Bedford North Lawrence, Mooresville and Castle.

 

 

The Golden Bears’ only loss this season came to Columbus North. The program already has a pair of top-10 wins over Pendleton Heights and Mooresville.

Guerin Catholic is the top-ranked team in Class 3A. Danville, Scottsburg, Tri-West and Kankakee Valley round out the top five. The second five are South Bend St. Joseph, Yorktown, Benton Central, Brownstown Central and Boonville.

Shelbyville will host 3A No. 7 Yorktown Saturday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference contest.

Pioneer is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A.

Sullivan is No. 2 ahead of Union County, South Vermillion, Evansville Mater Dei, Frankton, Madison-Grant, Fairfield, Eastern Hancock and Linton-Stockton.

A trio of Indiana Crossroads Conference schools – Cascade, Speedway and Scecina – are receiving votes.

Tecumseh – with several members on its roster from the Class A state basketball championship squad – is No. 1 in Class A.

Clay City is No. 2 followed by West Central, Northeast Dubois, Loogootee, Hauser, West Washington, Cowan, Barr-Reeve, South Central (Union Mills) and Northfield.
