Shelbyville softball rises back into top 10 in state coaches poll

Shelbyville High School’s softball team moved back into the top 10 this week in the state coaches poll.

The new Softball Coaches Association of Indiana state poll was released Monday afternoon and the Golden Bears are ranked No. 9 – two spots higher than last week when it fell out of the top 10 for the first time this season.

Roncalli (15-0), the defending state champions, are still No. 1 in the Class 4A poll but with New Palestine dropping to No. 5 this week, Whiteland (14-0) rises to No. 2 with Mooresville and Bedford North Lawrence now ahead of the Dragons, who lost at Shelbyville Thursday, 7-5, and Saturday to Roncalli, 15-5.

The second five in the 4A top 10 are Columbus North, Pendleton Heights, Lake Central, Shelbyville and Harrison (West Lafayette).

 

 

Shelbyville (11-3) can strengthen its climb in the state rankings today when it plays at Whiteland and Thursday at Danville.

There is a new No. 1 in Class 3A. Yorktown, the previous No. 1, slips to No. 3 with South Bend St. Joseph (12-0) taking over the top spot. Tri-West Hendricks is No. 2.

Benton Central is No. 4 ahead of Gibson Southern, New Prairie, Connersville, Scottsburg, Cathedral and Danville (11-2).

Pioneer (14-1) remains No. 1 in the Class 2A poll. Hebron is No 2 followed by Sullivan, Union County, Madison-Grant, South Vermillion, Boone Grove, Evansville Mater Dei, North Posey and Eastside.

Eastern Hancock is No. 12.

Tecumseh (12-4) remains No. 1 in Class A ahead of Caston, Clay City, Hauser, Rising Sun, West Washington, West Central Rossville, South Central (Union Mills), Cowan and Fremont.
