Prep Report: Shelbyville baseball splits HHC series with Yorktown

Behind a strong pitching performance from Caden Tackett, Shelbyville baseball split its two-game series with Yorktown.

Tackett allowed five hits and one walk Wednesday while striking out four to lead the visiting Golden Bears to a 3-2 victory.

Tackett also had a solo home run as part of a two-hit performance that raised his team-leading batting average to .490 this season.

Dalton Jones had three hits to improve his batting average to .400.

Shelbyville (11-6, 5-5 Hoosier Heritage Conference) scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead.

Yorktown countered with a two-run sixth inning to tie the game.

Shelbyville pushed a run across in the top of the seventh and Tackett (4-2) finished off the Tigers (13-6, 7-5 HHC) in the bottom half of the inning.

Jackson Furnish had two hits for Yorktown.

J.D. Morris (1-2) took the loss.

Shelbyville will host Anderson (11-7) today at Barnett Field.

Baseball

Southwestern 6, Edinburgh 5

At Edinburgh, Tucker Simmons and Jonah DeArmitt delivered run-scoring singles in the top of the seventh inning to get the visiting Spartans a split in the two-game series.

Matthew Clements pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn the win. Aiden Hartsell was the starter and allowed four runs while striking out five Lancers.

DeArmitt had two hits and two runs batted in for Southwestern (5-10, 5-5 Mid-Hoosier Conference). Hartsell drove in a pair of runs in the second inning.

Jordan Jones had a double and scored two runs.

On Tuesday at Southwestern, Edinburgh scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning and Travis Jones finished off the Spartans for a 2-1 victory.

Jones pitched a complete game for Edinburgh (3-12, 1-8 MHC), allowing two hits while striking out 11.

Riley Palmeter drove in both runs.

 

 

Boys Golf

Terre Haute South 181, Triton Central 208, Speedway 237

At Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, Triton Central’s Oliver Gearlds posted a 1-over par score of 37 to earn the medalist honor.

Nick Winning led Terre Haute South to the team victory with a 42. Nolan Mishler shot 45 and Kyle Kennedy and Nick Cherry each carded 47.

Chase Chandler backed Gearlds on the TC scorecard with a 52. Max Ray shot 58 and Derreck Uhls followed at 61. Garrett Eberhardt also competed and shot 67.

Mason Holton led the host Sparkplugs with 50. Isaac Graber (59), Camden Bennett (62) and Camden Outlaw (66) completed Speedway’s scorecard.

Triton Central hosts Lutheran Friday at Hawk’s Tail Golf Club.

 

 

Girls Tennis

Triton Central 5, Edinburgh 0

At Edinburgh, Julia Sanders and Lelia Chougule were dominant in singles victories and the Tigers did not drop a set in sweeping the Lancers.

At No. 1 singles, Sanders defeated Bethany Burton, 6-2, 6-1.

Emma Hutchinson produced a straight-set win at No. 2 singles over Jessica Walsh, 6-1, 7-5.

Chougule topped Peyton Bryant, 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Kelsey McGuire and Alyssa Wheatley swept Alyssa Funkhouser and Jillian Turner, 6-0, 6-0.

And Olivia Martin and Sarah Williams defeated Gracie Myers and Zoe Sida, 6-3, 7-6 (6).

Triton Central got junior varsity wins from Courtney Washburn and the doubles pairing of Olivia Reedy and Maggie Martin.

Triton Central hosts Ritter today for an Indiana Crossroads Conference match.
