Prep Report: Shelbyville tennis grounds the Jets

Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Renee Aldridge and Karlie Lawson needed a third set to complete the sweep of Hauser Monday night.

Aldridge and Lawson defeated Gabby Johns and Charlie Clark, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 to secure a 5-0 victory over the visiting Jets.

At No. 2 doubles, Riley Lee and Sydney Baker improved to 9-6 this season with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mattie Foster and Piper Rowell.

Jaidyn Tackett defeated Belle Kilps at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Emma Sandman rolled 6-3, 6-0 over Addyson Barriger at No. 2 singles.

And Ella Connolly bested Lydie Jordan, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Shelbyville is 7-8 this season. The Golden Bears travel to Mt. Vernon today to face Yorktown.

Baseball

Lutheran 6, Southwestern 2

At Lutheran, Cade Tabit had three hits and drove in two runs while Cole Perkins pitched six solid innings to lead the Saints over the Spartans (5-11).

Lutheran scored single runs in four straight innings and added a pair in the sixth to improve to 13-7 this season.

Perkins allowed three hits and walked two while striking out four. Tabit gave up two hits and a run in the seventh inning before closing out the win.

 

 

Morristown 20, Anderson Prep 2

At Anderson Prep, the visiting Yellow Jackets erupted for 16 runs in the top of the fifth inning to improve to 9-6 this season.

Kade Rogers tossed a five-inning complete game, allowing one hit while striking out nine.

Lucas Ellis and Grant Kessler each drove in three runs against Anderson Prep (0-9).

Ellis, Sam McDaniel and Rodgers each had two hits.

Morristown hosts Eastern Hancock (4-13) today.

 

 

North Decatur 3, Waldron 0

At North Decatur, Brayden Hancock scattered four Waldron hits and struck out 11 to lead the Chargers (8-7, 5-3 Mid-Hoosier Conference) to the win.

Xander Jones and Nolan Burkhart combined to drive in five runs.

Jacob Bennett took the loss for Waldron (4-13, 0-8 MHC). He pitched four innings, allowed three hits, walked five and struck out five.

Waldron hosts Morristown Thursday.

 

 

Boys Golf

Southwestern 194, Oldenburg Academy 221

At Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, Tristan Pappano (44) and Hunter Pappano (46) led the Spartans to the win.

Justin Swift shot 50, Caleb Pappano followed at 54 and Ty Burcham finished at 55.

Oldenburg Academy’s Brett Wagner was the medalist with an 8-over-par score of 43.

 

 

Heritage Christian 173, Cathedral Navy 187, Triton Central 231

At Hillcrest Country Club, Chase Chandler led Triton Central with a 52.

Also competing for TC were Max Ray (55), Derreck Uhls (56) and Garrett Eberhardt (68).

 

 

Morristown 194, Eastern Hancock 203, Waldron 230

At Blue Bear Golf Course in Shelbyville, Morristown’s Asher Caldwell earned the medalist honor with a round of 41 and the Yellow Jackets produced a season-best 9-hole score.

Nick Stidham shot 48 for Morristown. Carson Essex followed at 51 and Carson Conrad shot 54. Web Walker posted a 58.

 

 

Softball

Morristown 19, Blue River Valley 1

At Blue River Valley, Rhylee Moran had four hits and pitched a complete game to push Morristown’s record to 8-6 this season.

Kaylin Waltz also had four hits, including two doubles. Alexia Rogers, Madi Espich and Nevaeh Cox each drove in three.

Moran collected five strikeouts against Blue River Valley (0-10).

Morristown is at Waldron Thursday.

 

 

Girls Tennis

Edinburgh 3, Southwestern 2

At Edinburgh, the host Lancers swept all three singles matches to defeat the Spartans.

At No. 1 doubles, Southwestern’s Kyla Robertson and Brooklyn Schneider won 6-0, 6-4 while McKinley Correll and Faith Kelley were victorious, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

The Lancers won the singles matches in straight sets.

Southwestern is at Franklin today.

 

 

Franklin JV 4, Waldron 1

At Waldron, Nichole Garner secured the host Mohawks’ lone win at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-0 over Franklin’s Sarah Smith.

Mallory Luse defeated Megan Bogemann at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

Eleanor Stillabower bested Riley Price at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

The No. 1 doubles match also went three sets. Waldron’s Mackenzie Shaw and Josee Larrison lost to Kate Pinnock and Meleah Murphy, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8.

At No. 2 doubles, Ava Pinnock and Jenna Hash defeated Audrey Hogg and Emily Tyree, 6-4, 6-1.

Waldron hosts Eastern Hancock today.
