South Decatur sweeps MHC track and field titles

With a runner-up finish in the final relay race of the conference meet, South Decatur held off Morristown to capture the Mid-Hoosier Conference Girls Track and Field championship.

The Cougars’ 138 points topped Morristown by three points. Southwestern finished third on its home track with 111.5 points.

Morristown won two of the three relay events and had two individual event winners Tuesday.

Raegan Kleine won the 1,600-meter run in six minutes, 9.96 seconds.

Maggie Lutes crossed the finish line first in the 400 in 1:06.83.

Kleine and Lutes teamed with Gracie Laster and Eva Champigneulle to win the 3,200 relay in 12:15.09.

And the Yellow Jackets won the 1,600 relay with Laster, Kleine, Lutes and Emma Wiggins in 4:32.85.

Southwestern’s Alison Muck and Lilly Rooks (photo) were double winners Tuesday.

Muck won the 100 hurdles in 16.04 and took first place in the 200 (28.17).

Rooks was the fastest sprinter, winning the 100 in 13.2 and tying the MHC Meet record of 16-6.75 while winning the long jump. Waldron’s Hannah Sullivan (2017) now shares the record with Rooks.

Waldron produced two event winners.

 

 

Hadlie Ross (photo) captured the 800 title in 2:38.63. Madalyn Hudnall won the shot put with a best throw of 31-4.

South Decatur also won the boys conference championship with 124 points. Hauser was runner-up at 113.5. Morristown (85) and Southwestern (78) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Southwestern won the 3,200 relay in 9:16.87 with Ryan Griffin, Dane Kissell, Dakota Claiborne and Carter Snepp.

Snepp also took first place in the 800 (2:13.42).

For Morristown, Tyler Schonfeld won the 200 in 23.42.

 

 

Waldron’s Braylon Williams (photo) won the shot put with a best attempt of 43-2.75.
