Prep Report: Triton Central secures ICC softball win over Speedway

Allison Raquet and Brylie Couch each had two hits to help Triton Central secure a 5-4 conference win over Speedway Wednesday in Fairland.

Couch had a double and drove in three runs while Raquet had a triple and scored two runs to improve Triton Central to 5-8 this season and 2-4 against Indiana Crossroads Conference opponents.

Lillian Fillippinie pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and five walks while striking out eight Sparkplugs (5-11, 2-4 ICC).

Baseball

New Castle 13, Shelbyville 7

At Barnett Field in Shelbyville, the visiting Trojans scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure a sweep of the Golden Bears (11-8, 5-7 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Eli Cooper had three hits and drove in four runs to keep Class 3A, No. 7 New Castle (13-2, 10-1 HHC) atop the conference standings. Aydan Decker-Petty and Max Upchurch each had three RBIs. Garrett Rusch had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two.

New Castle led 3-2 after three innings and 7-3 after four.

Caden Tackett took the loss for Shelbyville. The junior threw four innings, allowed eight hits and four walks while striking out four. Luke Brinkman pitched the final three innings.

Charlie Rife and Dalton Jones each drove in two runs for Shelbyville.

 

 

Cascade 20, Triton Central 0

At Cascade, the host Cadets stayed unbeaten against ICC competition with a sweep of Triton Central (7-8, 5-5 ICC).

Class 2A, No. 5 Cascade (18-3, 12-0 ICC) scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning to secure the victory.

Wyatt Blinn finished a single short of the cycle. The senior had a double, triple and home run and drove in four runs.

Hunter Howard also had a home run and four RBIs.

Evan Lanphier was the beneficiary of the run support, working four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven.

 

 

Boys Golf

Columbus North 149, New Palestine White 185, Shelbyville 186, New Palestine Red 203

At Hawk’s Tail, Columbus North’s Luke Schneider shot 3-under par 33 to lead the Bull Dogs to the victory.

Columbus North’s top four golfers carded 40 or better. Tyler Wilks shot 37. William Davis followed at 39 and Jack Schiavello posted 40.

Eli Baker led Shelbyville with a 44. Nolan Chaney (46), Jake Garrison (47) and DaMiles McDuffey (49) completed the Golden Bears’ scorecard. James Garrett (54) and Jakob Heaton (55) also competed Wednesday.

Evan Griffith (44), Landon Beaty (45), Gus Walling (46) and Alex Cofer (50) led New Palestine’s White squad to a 1-shot edge over Shelbyville.

Joey McPike topped New Palestine’s Red squad with 46. Ryker Bland followed at 48. Chase Thompson (54) and Brady Torzewski (55) rounded out the Dragons’ scorecard.

 

 

Triton Central 218, Beech Grove 221

At Sarah Shank Golf Course, Chase Chandler led Triton Central to the victory with a 51.

Derreck Uhls and Garrett Eberhardt each shot 54 and Dayne Bailey followed with 56. Max Ray posted a 57.

Jasper Schulz was the medalist with a 39 for Beech Grove. David Carney (56), Nathan Galager (60) and Joseph Baca (66) completed the Hornets’ scorecard.
