Prep Report: Shelbyville softball moves one step closer to HHC title

With a 10-3 win over New Castle Monday, Shelbyville softball maintained possession of the Hoosier Heritage Conference’s traveling trophy and stayed in control of capturing a conference title.

The Class 4A, No. 9 Golden Bears (17-4, 5-1 HHC) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to bust open a 2-0 game.

Cheyenne Eads collected the win, working three innings and allowing two hits and no runs. Hailey Pogue and Aliyah Lewis pitched in relief and kept the Trojans in check.

Karissa Hamilton had two hits including her third home run in her last four games.

Kylee Edwards raised her batting average to .600 this season with a 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles.

Hamilton and Edwards each drove in three runs.

Kattie Mathews had two hits and two RBIs for New Castle (10-13, 1-5 HHC).

With the win, Shelbyville and Class 3A, No. 3 Yorktown sit atop the HHC standings with 5-1 records. Class 4A, No. 4 New Palestine (4-2) and 4A No. 7 Pendleton Heights (3-2) are one game back.

Shelbyville can clinch at least a share of the HHC title today with a win over Greenfield-Central (14-6, 3-3 HHC).

Yorktown (18-2) travels to Pendleton Heights (19-5) Thursday.

Baseball

Warren Central 12, Shelbyville 4

At Warren Central, the host Warriors scored three runs in each of the first two innings to secure the win over the Golden Bears (12-10).

Jackson Hobbs had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two to lead Warren Central (11-11).

J.J. Calmes picked up the victory, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and securing nine strikeouts.

Kade McNicholas took the loss for Shelbyville. He pitched four innings, allowed seven hits and seven runs.

Logan Prickett and Charlie Rife each had two hits for Shelbyville.

Waldron 14, Edinburgh 3

At Edinburgh, Eli Sheppard had two hits including a grand slam to lead the Mohawks (6-15, 2-9 Mid-Hoosier Conference).

Donovan Russell had three hits and two RBIs and Jared Brooks drove in three runs to help Jacob Lindsey collect the win.

Lindsey allowed four hits while striking out seven Lancers.

Riley Palmeter had a home run and drove in two runs for Edinburgh (5-14, 1-10 MHC).

Triton Central 9, Oldenburg Academy 8

At Triton Central, Quintin Potts had two hits and drove in three runs for Triton Central (9-9).

Cole Thomas and Avynn Whitaker each had three hits and three TC pitchers combined to secure the win.

Ben Toth (5.1 innings, eight hits, seven runs), Aaron Shircliff (one inning, three strikeouts) and Blaine Raider (1.2 innings, one hit, one run) combined for seven strikeouts.

Boys Golf

Indiana Crossroads Conference Meet

At Pleasant Run Golf Course, Triton Central’s Oliver Gearlds finished fourth in the individual standings to earn All-ICC honors.

Lutheran captured the ICC title with a one-stroke victory, 369-370, over Monrovia. Scecina (383), Triton Central (387), Cascade (392), Ritter (451), Beech Grove (452) and Speedway (453) completed the field.

Monrovia’s Titus Boswell was crowned ICC champion after carding a 72. Beech Grove’s Jesper Shultz was runner-up at 78. Lutheran’s Caden Perkins followed at 80 and Gearlds posted 82.

Also playing for Triton Central were Chase Chandler (96), Derreck Uhls (99), Garrett Eberhardt (110) and Max Ray (118).

Indian Creek 180, Southwestern 196, Mooresville Christian 246

At Tameka Woods, Braxton Christi shot 1-over-par 37 to lead the host Braves to the victory.

Tristan Pappano and Ty Burcham led Southwestern with 47s. Hunter Pappano followed at 49. Justin Swift shot 53 and Caleb Pappano finished at 54.

New Castle 175, Rushville 198, Morristown 223

At Antler Pointe, Morristown’s Asher Caldwell was the medalist with a round of 39.

Carson Conrad (58), Carson Essex (62) and Web Walker (64) completed the Morristown scorecard.

Softball

Whiteland 12, Triton Central 8

At Triton Central, the Class 4A, No. 2 Warriors never trailed in securing their 21st victory of the season.

Maddy Myers had two hits including a home run and drove in six to lead Whiteland (21-1).

Freshman Kiley Sullivan earned the win with a complete-game performance. She allowed nine hits and four walks while striking out nine.

Lillian Fillippinie took the loss for Triton Central (6-9). She allowed 12 hits and 12 runs.

Jayda McKee, Brylie Couch and Brooklyn Adkins each had two hits for TC.

Hauser 13, Morristown 1

At Morristown, the Class A, No. 2-ranked Jets used a six-run third inning to break open the MHC contest.

Hannah Taylor had three hits and drove in six runs for Hauser (18-3-1, 9-0 MHC). Reagan Johnson, Maley Jordan and Kylie Mack each had three hits.

Paige McDaniel earned the win after allowing two hits and striking out nine.

Rhylee Moran took the loss for Morristown (9-8, 2-7 MHC).

Edinburgh 7, Waldron 1

At Edinburgh, Mackenzie Bieker had three hits and two RBIs and notched 18 strikeouts to lead the Lancers (10-10, 5-4 MHC).

Kyah Streeval had two doubles and two RBIs for Edinburgh.

Girls Tennis

Shelbyville 4, Rushville 1

At Shelbyville, the Golden Bears finished the regular season with a 10-11 record.

Jaidyn Tackett and Emma Sandman produced singles victories.

Shelbyville swept the doubles matches.
