Prep Report: Triton Central freshman tosses shutout for ICC road victory

Triton Central was first on the scoreboard with a single run in the top of the sixth inning and three more followed in the seventh to secure a 4-0 road victory Tuesday at Indianapolis Lutheran.

Freshman Bryce Haney went the distance for Triton Central (10-9, 6-6 Indiana Crossroads Conference), allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Sean Moore took the loss for Lutheran (16-8, 7-6 ICC). The senior allowed five hits and four walks and all four TC runs.

Quintin Potts had two hits to lead TC’s offense. Avram Rund, Aaron Shircliff and Hayden May each drove in runs.

Baseball

Greenfield-Central 14, Shelbyville 10

At Greenfield-Central, the host Cougars moved into fifth place in the Hoosier Heritage Conference standings with the win.

A.J. Oden had two hits and drove in four runs for the Cougars (9-13, 6-7 HHC). Joe Roland and Brodie Mayberry each had three hits.

Andrew Zellers earned the win despite allowing all 10 Shelbyville runs.

Dalton Jones took the loss for Shelbyville (12-11, 5-8 HHC). The freshman allowed 12 hits and 12 runs before Brayden Basey took over and finished the game.

Charlie Rife led the Golden Bears, one game back of G-C in the HHC standings, with three hits and three RBIs. Basey and Luke Jackson each drove in two runs.

 

 

Hauser 4, Morristown 2

At Hauser, the host Jets clinched the Mid-Hoosier Conference championship with a win over the Yellow Jackets (10-10, 5-6 MHC).

Koby Johnson pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and two unearned runs while striking out 14. The senior also had a home run and drove in three runs.

Grant Kessler took the loss for Morristown. The junior allowed four hits and struck out 11.

Hauser (14-10, 10-1 MHC) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added an insurance run in the sixth.

 

 

Greenwood Christian 20, Waldron 6

At Waldron, the visiting Cougars scored nine runs combined in the third and fourth innings and added nine more runs in the seventh to improve to 11-8 this season.

Trey Harney III and Eli Ellis each drove in three runs on five hits. Charlie Overton went 4-for-6 with four runs scored.

Waldron dropped to 6-16.

 

 

Boys Golf

Whiteland 172, Shelbyville 173

At Blue Bear Golf Club, Will Davis shot 37 to lead the visiting Warriors to a 1-shot victory over the Golden Bears.

Nolen Chaney led Shelbyville with a season-best round of 39. Brock Wischmeyer also posted a season-best round of 40.

DaMiles McDuffey followed at 44 and Jake Garrison shot 50.

 

 

Triton Central 212, Ritter 258

At Eagle Creek, Oliver Gearlds led all golfers with a round of 39 to help the Tigers to the victory.

Max Ray (56), Derreck Uhls (58) and Garrett Eberhardt (59) completed the Triton Central scorecard.

Chris Collier led Ritter with a 53.

 

 

Softball

Shelbyville 10, Southport 1

At Shelbyville, the Class 4A, No. 9 Golden Bears won their seventh straight behind a strong pitching performance from Hailey Pogue.

The junior pitched six innings and allowed six hits and one unearned run. Aliyah Lewis pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.

Karissa Hamilton, Cheyenne Eads and Cati Richardson each had two hits for Shelbyville (18-4). Kylee Edwards collected four runs batted in.

Haley Matlock, Hailey Kiefner and Naomi Chan each had two hits for Southport (5-16).

 

 

Hauser 12, Morristown 0

At Hauser, the host Jets, ranked No. 2 in Class A, scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to their 19th win of the season.

Kaydence Gates had four RBIs and Kenze Bostic had two hits and two RBIs to lead Hauser (19-3-1, 10-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference) to the conference championship.

Gates collected the win in the circle, allowing four hits and no runs over five innings of work.

Alexia Rogers took the loss for Morristown (9-9, 2-8 MHC).

Delaney Cornn had two of Morristown’s four hits.

 

 

Triton Central 10, Covenant Christian 5

At Triton Central, the host Tigers scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to improve to 7-9 this season.

Allison Raquet had three hits to lead TC. Madison Collins, Jazmin Jett and Brylie Couch each had two hits.

Couch earned the win, allowing eight hits while striking out 12.

Morgan Yeater had three hits for Covenant Christian (10-13).

 

 

Girls Tennis

Triton Central 4, Hauser 1

At Triton Central, the host Tigers completed their regular season schedule with a 15-3 record.

Triton Central dropped just two games in sweeping all three singles matches.

Julia Sanders defeated Bella Kilps, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Emma Hutchinson blanked Addyson Barriger, 6-0, 6-0.

Lelia Chougule topped Lydia Jordan at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.

Olivia Martin and Sarah Williams defeated Mattie Foster and Piper Rowell at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-3.

Hauser’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles where Charlie Clark and Gabby Johns bested Kelsey McGuire and Alyssa Wheatley, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Triton Central got junior varsity match wins from Courtney Washburn and Kaylynn Washburn and the doubles pairings of Olivia Reedy/Lauren Grant, Jana Cambero/Lena Hack and Monica Corella/Maggie Martin.
