Prep Report: Shelbyville baseball closes out regular season with pair of losses

Shelbyville baseball closed out its regular season on a four-game losing streak.

On Friday, the Golden Bears lost to Greenfield-Central 8-6 in nine innings at Barnett Field in Shelbyville.

Andrew Zellers and A.J. Oden each had home runs. Oden drove in four runs.

Zellers and Landon Brooks combined to allow six Shelbyville hits and struck out 12 to improve the Cougars to 10-14 (7-7 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Caden Tackett took the loss for Shelbyville (12-12, 5-9 HHC). Tackett allowed four hits and four runs in 4.2 innings on the mound.

Luke Brinkman started and worked into the fifth inning, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Brayden Basey led Shelbyville with three hits and two RBIs. Brinkman and Logan Prickett each had two hits.

On Saturday, Jennings County scored four runs in the top of the first inning and added seven runs in the fifth to finish off the Golden Bears (12-13).

Luke Jackson took the loss for Shelbyville. The sophomore allowed 10 hits and seven runs in 4.1 innings.

Jacob Vogel had three hits, including two doubles, for Jennings County (18-10). Carson McNulty and Lane Zohrlaut each had two hits.

Austin Byford went the distance for JC. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Shelbyville opens the postseason Wednesday at Bloomington South (10-11).

Baseball

Morristown 20, Indiana Deaf 4

At Morristown Friday, the host Yellow Jackets built a 9-1 lead after two innings and scored 10 runs in the third to wrap up their regular-season schedule with an 11-11 record.

Morristown had 17 hits, including seven doubles, in the win.

Kade Rogers, Kane Snyder, Dyllan Rutledge, Bryce Bryant, Jake Rains and Grant Kessler each had multiple-hit games.

Rains had a team-high four RBIs.

Rogers earned the win on the mound. The sophomore allowed two hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Morristown is the host site for Class A, Sectional 59. The Yellow Jackets will face Greenwood Christian Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.

Lutheran 14, Triton Central 2

At Triton Central Saturday, the visiting Saints quickly built a 7-0 lead and went on to the victory to finish third in the Indiana Crossroads Conference standings.

Sean Moore went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Saints (17-8, 8-6 ICC). Cole Perkins had three hits and three RBIs.

Ryan Jeffers pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing three hits while recording five strikeouts.

Quintin Potts had two hits for Triton Central (11-10, 6-7 ICC).

Triton Central closes out its regular-season schedule today at Greenfield-Central (10-14).

The Tigers travel to Scecina (12-10) Wednesday for their Class 2A, Sectional 42 opener.

Track and Field

Columbus North Sectional

Southwestern and Waldron did not advance any athletes to the regional level Friday night.

Southwestern’s Owen Stringer finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.93 seconds.

The Southwestern quartet of Ryan Griffin, Dane Kissell, Dakota Claiborne and Carter Snepp finished fifth in the 3,200 relay in 8:46.97.

Waldron’s 400 relay team of Ethan Richardson, Brandon Palmer, Braylon Williams and Caden Balzen placed seventh in 48.22.
