Shelbyville softball finishes regular season ranked in SCAI top 10

Shelbyville softball enters the postseason ranked in the top 10.

The Softball Coaches Association of Indiana’s final statewide poll was released Monday and the Golden Bears are tied for No. 10 in the Class 4A rankings.

Unbeaten Roncalli (26-0), the defending state champions, are No. 1 in Class 4A followed by Whiteland (22-2), Mooresville (26-3), New Palestine (21-3-1), Bedford North Lawrence (25-2), Columbus North (18-3), Pendleton Heights (21-6), Center Grove (18-8), Harrison (West Lafayette) (23-1), and Lake Central (21-6) and Shelbyville (19-5).

Shelbyville and Columbus North are in the same sectional tournament along with No. 14. Bloomington South (17-4).

Whiteland, Mooresville and Center Grove are in the same sectional.

Shelbyville was 4-2 against the top 10 – defeating Mooresville, New Palestine and Pendleton Heights twice this season while losing to Whiteland and Columbus North.

 

 

Tri-West Hendricks (23-2) leads the Class 3A poll.

Gibson Southern (26-4) is No. 2 ahead of Yorktown (21-3), South Bend St. Joseph’s (21-3), Connersville (20-4), Leo (23-2), Cathedral (17-9), Benton Central (17-2), New Prairie (20-7), Western (20-5) and Franklin County (20-7).

Three of Shelbyville’s five losses have come to 3A top 10 programs – Yorktown, Connersville and Cathedral.

Pioneer (22-4), the defending Class 2A state champions, enter the 2022 postseason as the top-ranked team.

Sullivan (23-5) is No. 2 followed by Illiana Christian (19-2), Hebron (20-3), Boone Grove (14-4), South Vermillion (20-3), Eastside (22-1), North Posey (19-1), Wheeler (12-5) and North Newton (13-3).

Hauser (19-4-1) has risen to the No. 2 ranking in Class A behind Tecumseh (23-5).

Rising Sun (19-2) is No. 3 ahead of Caston (17-3), South Central (Union Mills) 17-6, West Central (18-4), West Washington (18-4), Clay City (21-4), Rossville (19-2) and Fremont (16-11).

Edinburgh (11-11) is No. 14.
