Morristown softball utilized a pair of 4-run innings to defeat Greenwood Christian Academy and advance into the Class A, Sectional 59 championship game.
Already leading 2-0 Tuesday in the Indianapolis Lutheran Sectional, Morristown scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 6-0 advantage.
The Cougars (4-7) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to cut into the Yellow Jackets’ lead before a second 4-run inning in the sixth put Morristown in complete control.
Rhylee Moran, Kaylin Waltz and Delaney Cornn each had two hits for Morristown.
Moran drove in two runs. Waltz had a pair of doubles. Cornn had a triple and scored two runs.
Moran earned the win in the pitcher’s circle with a complete-game performance. The junior allowed five hits and had five strikeouts.
With the win, Morristown (11-11) moves into the sectional championship game Thursday.
The second semifinal game is scheduled for today between Waldron (3-11) and Lutheran (9-14), a 9-8 winner over Class A, No. 14 Edinburgh Monday.
