Bloomington South scores baseball sectional win over Shelbyville

Shelbyville baseball fell behind early and never recovered Wednesday night in a 6-1 Class 4A, Sectional 14 loss to Bloomington South.

Nico Walters limited the Golden Bears (12-14) to two hits while striking out 12 in a complete-game performance.

A.J. Brinson, Justin Zaleski and Blaise Oeding combined for seven of Bloomington South’s 10 hits.

The Panthers (11-11) scored two runs in each of the first two innings and added a run in the third inning before Shelbyville got on the scoreboard.

In the fourth, Brayden Basey doubled and scored on a Dalton Jones single to make it 5-1.

Luke Brinkman started on the mound for Shelbyville and took the loss. He allowed seven hits and two walks over three innings of work.

Caden Tackett pitched the final four innings in relief.

With the win, Bloomington South advanced to Friday’s semifinal round to face East Central, who upset No. 10 Columbus North Wednesday, 5-4.

The Trojans (17-7) will face the host Panthers at 6 p.m.

In the second semifinal game, Columbus East (11-16-1) will take on Bloomington North (11-6).
