Prep Report: Weather forced several sectional postponements

Inclement weather Wednesday postponed the Class A, Sectional 59 baseball tournament at Morristown High School.

The quarterfinal round is now scheduled for today with Morristown (11-11) hosting Greenwood Christian (13-8) at 5 p.m.

The second game pits Southwestern (6-15) against Indianapolis Lutheran (18-8).

The winners of today’s games return Saturday for a 10 a.m. semifinal contest.

The second semifinal Saturday has Waldron (7-16) battling Edinburgh (5-15).

The sectional championship game is slated for 10 a.m. Monday.

Softball

The Class 2A, Sectional 42 championship game made it to the fourth inning before rain forced the postponement of the game.

Eastern Hancock built a 2-0 lead through three innings. Triton Central was batting in the fourth with two outs when the game was stopped.

The championship game will now pick up Friday at 5 p.m. at Eastern Hancock High School in Charlottesville.

The Sectional 42 champion will host the Sectional 41 champion in a one-game regional Tuesday.

Union County (25-2), ranked No. 11, will take on Northeastern (16-7) in the Sectional 41 championship game today.

The championship game at Class A, Sectional 59 is set.

Lutheran built a 10-0 lead on Waldron over the first three innings Wednesday before the weather forced the postponement of the game.

Waldron would not have enough players available to continue the game at a later date so the game was considered final.

The Mohawks finished the season 3-12.

Lutheran (10-14) will host Morristown (10-10) today in the sectional championship game. The Saints and Yellow Jackets did not play each other in the regular season.

The Sectional 59 champion will face the Sectional 60 champion Tuesday in a one-game regional.

The Sectional 60 championship game at Rising Sun features No. 3 Rising Sun (20-2) against No. 2 Hauser (21-4-1).

Track and Field

Greenfield-Central Regional

Nine Shelby County athletes will compete for state finals berths tonight in Greenfield.

Morristown’s Tyler Schonfeld and Triton Central’s Brad Schultz are part of the field in the 100-meter dash.

Triton Central’s Ethan Cales will compete in the 110 hurdles.

Fellow Tiger Brayden Wilkins is in the 200.

Shelbyville’s Beau Kenkel runs the 1,600.

Triton Central’s 400 relay team of Schultz, Wilkins, Ray Crawford and Anthony Dunville are in good position to advance to the state meet.

And a pair of Golden Bears are in field events.

Samuel Price will compete in the long jump while Jordan Marcum is part of the high jump field.
