Prep Report: Shelbyville boys swimming falls just short of Senior Night win over Greenwood

Shelbyville boys swimming came up five points short of securing a Senior Night win Tuesday against Greenwood.

At Shelbyville, the Woodmen prevailed 79-74 over the Golden Bears.

Greenwood put together a 119-54 win in the girls meet.

In the boys meet, Shelbyville earned first-place points in the 200 medley relay (Will Rife, Trey Carrell, Tristin Maloney and Andrew Duffy), the 50 freestyle (Carrell), 100 freestyle (Carrell), and 500 freestyle (Rife).

Collecting runner-up finishes were Elijah von Werder in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Rife in the 50 freestyle, Maloney in the 100 butterfly and Duffy in the 100 breaststroke.

Shelbyville won two events in the girls meet.

Riley Everette touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle.

Maiah Helfer-Vazquez (photo) set a new personal best (202.1 points) in winning the diving competition.

Scoring runner-up points for the Golden Bears were Everette in the 100 butterfly, Naomi Garringer in the 100 freestyle and Miriam Garringer in the 100 breaststroke.

Shelbyville returns to the pool Thursday at Greenfield-Central.

Girls basketball

Morristown 47, Greenwood Christian 16

At Morristown, the visiting Cougars (2-15) scored no more than five points in any of the four quarters against the Yellow Jackets.

Morristown improved to 9-10 this season after starting the season 0-6.

The Yellow Jackets host Hauser (9-8) Thursday at the Bee Hive. Hauser head coach Kyle Shipp, the former Whiteland girls basketball coach and Shelbyville assistant athletic director, is seeking career win No. 100 Thursday.

Southwestern 57, Herron 30

At Southwestern, the host Spartans got out to an 18-8 lead after one quarter and never trailed the rest of the game.

Four different Spartans scored in double figures, led by 12 points from Cy Stockdale. Tanna Tatlock and McKinley Correll each had 11 and Riley Engel finished with 10 to improve Southwestern to 4-15 this season.

Jada Wright led Herron (7-9) with eight points.

Southwestern won the junior varsity game, 46-5.

Katelynn Coffman scored a game-high 18 points for Southwestern. Eight different Spartans scored in the victory.

Southwestern hosts Edinburgh (6-14) Friday in a girls/boys varsity-only doubleheader.

Triton Central 50, Covenant Christian 22

At Triton Central, the Class 2A, No. 15 Tigers outscored Covenant Christian 21-2 in the second quarter to build a 31-8 halftime advantage.

Maryrose Felling hit a trio of three-pointers in the third quarter to help Triton Central (15-4) cruise to the victory. Felling led TC with 23 points.

Lizzie Graham had 11 points and Hallie Schweitzer finished with nine.

Ella Crane topped Covenant Christian (5-14) with 10 points.

Triton Central returns to action Friday for the 15th Annual Pink Out Game against Tri-West (5-14).
