Prep Report: Rutledge leads Morristown to MHC win over Hauser

It took most of the season for Morristown to get to win No. 10.

A preseason top-15 ranked squad, the Yellow Jackets opened the season 0-6 as they dealt with a variety of issues affecting the roster.

On Thursday, Morristown put together a complete performance to defeat Hauser, 48-35, and improve to 10-10 this season.

Danika Rutledge hit 10 of 18 shots from the field to lead the Yellow Jackets with 21 points. The sophomore also grabbed 11 rebounds and had two assists and four steals.

Raegan Kleine finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals and Alexia Rogers hit a trio of three-pointers to finish with nine points.

The loss for the Jets (9-9) was their first against a Mid-Hoosier Conference opponent this season.

North Decatur (15-5) currently leads the MHC standings with a 4-0 mark. Hauser dropped to 4-1 and Morristown and South Decatur are each 4-2.

The Yellow Jackets will attempt to get above .500 Monday when they host Knightstown (3-17).

Girls basketball

New Palestine 70, Waldron 39

At Waldron, the visiting Dragons (9-10) scored 28 points in the second quarter to pull away from the Mohawks (4-16).

Isabella Gizzi, New Palestine’s career scoring leader, led the Dragons with 26 points. Allie Blum, a University of Kentucky softball commit, finished with 15.

Alivia Fischer topped Waldron with 15 points. Alyssa Benson had nine points and Emerson Lindsey finished with seven.

Waldron hosts Edinburgh (6-14) Tuesday.
