Prep Report: Mitchell, Yarling lead Waldron to MHC win over Southwestern

With senior Lucas Mitchell and Bryce Yarling combining for 28 points Friday, Waldron defeated Southwestern, 53-36.

Mitchell scored a game-high 17 points to push Waldron’s record to 8-8 overall and 3-1 against Mid-Hoosier Conference opponents.

Yarling had 11 points and helped the Mohawks race out to a 19-4 lead after one quarter.

Conner Jewell hit four three-pointers to lead Southwestern (1-14, 0-4 MHC) with 12 points. Ben Kahler finished with 10 points.

Southwestern hosts Herron (2-10) tonight.

Waldron hosts North Decatur (12-4, 4-0 MHC) Thursday.

In other boys basketball games Friday:

Edinburgh 71, Morristown 41

At Edinburgh, Caleb Dewey scored a game-high 24 points to improve Class A, No. 15 Edinburgh to 10-5 (3-3 MHC).

Jarrett Turner and Connor Ramey backed Dewey with 16 points apiece.

Cade Mahin and Jameson Palmer each scored 10 points to lead Morristown (1-15, 1-5 MHC).

The Yellow Jackets travel to New Castle (8-9) tonight.

Indianapolis Scecina 50, Triton Central 42

At Scecina, the host Crusaders hit 11 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the Indiana Crossroads Conference victory.

Keaton Thibo scored a game-high 18 points for Scecina (10-5, 1-2 ICC). Jordan Porter and Kaleb Milan each scored eight.

Triton Central led 20-18 at halftime but got outscored 18-8 in the third quarter and never recovered.

Isaac Morgan led the Tigers (11-5, 0-3 ICC) with 15 points. Eli Sego finished with nine points.
