Prep Report: Rushville tops Shelbyville in gymnastics meet

With the top three finishers in the all-around competition, Rushville defeated Shelbyville, 92.55-66.9, in a dual gymnastics meet Monday in Rushville.

Bell Westphal (33.225), Cora Emory (29.975) and Cyndi Tush (27.75) produced the top three total scores after all four events.

Shelbyville’s Renee Aldridge finished fourth at 27.7 while Ella Griggs was fifth (24.15).

Aldridge was the top Golden Bear finisher in three of the four events. She finished fourth in the vault (8.15), second in the uneven bars (6.625) and fifth on the balance beam (6.175).

Shelbyville’s Bailee Frazier finished sixth in the floor exercise (7.1).

Westphal totaled the top score in all four events – 8.85 in vault, 8.7 on balance beam, 7.475 on uneven bars and 8.2 in floor exercise.

On Saturday, Shelbyville hosted Roncalli, Westfield and Indianapolis Lutheran at Girls Inc.

Roncalli won the four-team meet with 99.875. Westfield was runner-up at 96.225 followed by Shelbyville (71.575) and Lutheran (58.05).

Roncalli’s Maddie Baker won the vault (8.85) while her teammate, Liz Schafer, took first in the floor exercise (9.075).

Lutheran’s Penelope Morrow won the uneven bars (8.525) and balance beam (9.0) events.

Schafer won the all-around competition with a total score of 34.9. Morrow was runner-up at 34.4.

Aldridge finished seventh (29.3) while Griggs was eighth (27.725).

Aldridge had Shelbyville’s best score in the vault (8.25), uneven bars (7.0) and floor exercise (7.15). Griggs had the best Golden Bear score on the balance beam (6.975).

In another gymnastics meet Monday:

Connersville 87.85, Morristown 87.05

At Connersville, the visiting Yellow Jackets produced their highest team score of the season but came up just short of defeating the Spartans.

Oakleigh Goedde led Morristown with a win in the floor exercise and runner-up finishes in the vault and uneven bars. And with a fifth-place finish on the balance beam, Goedde won the all-around competition.

Remi Spicklemire won the balance beam competition and placed fourth in the vault, fifth on the uneven bars and sixth in the floor exercise. Spicklemire finished fourth in the all-around.
