2020 Men's Silver Anniversary Team announced by Indiana Basketball Hall Of Fame

Eighteen men have been named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2020 Silver Anniversary Team, based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago.

 

The team includes 12 members named to the 1995 Indiana All-Star squad.  Six other all-state players are included to recognize the top of Indiana’s high school class of 1995.

 

1995 Indiana All-Stars include Mr. Basketball Damon Frierson, Kent Ayer, DuanyDuany, Michael Edison, Alan Eldridge, Chuck Gilbert, Courtney James, T.J. Lux, Jack Owens, James Patterson, Chad Peckinpaugh and Eric Riggs.

 

The remaining six, named to various all-state teams are: Brad Bixler, Keion Brooks, Kyle Huckeby, Mike Renfro, Brad Stevens and Marcus Wilson.

 

All Men’s Silver Anniversary Team members will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 59thAnnual Men’s Awards Banquet on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

 

A midday reception, free and open to the public, will be held at the Hall of Fame museum in New Castle.  The evening banquet will take place at the Primo Banquet Hall, which is located on the south side of Indianapolis.

KENT AYER                                                                                                           SOUTH SPENCER
1995 Indiana All-Star, AP 2nd team all-state, Indianapolis News 3rd team all-state, IBCA all-state and Bloomington H-T 1st team small school all-state after averaging 25.1 ppg for 22-3 sectional champions his senior year… named AP 3rd team all-state, IBCA 1st team underclass all-state and 1st team small school all-state as a junior averaging 19.3 ppg for 23-3 regional champions… set school record with 1,929 career points (then 38th best in Indiana boys basketball history)… 4-time 1st team all-conference, 3-time all-Southwestern Indiana and 2-time Southwestern Indiana Player of the Year… teams won three sectionals and two regionals… totaled 364 points in 102 career games at Middle Tennessee State University and was team captain his senior year… earned Law and MBA degrees and since 2005 has been with TDK Companies, where he is President… he resides in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

 

 

BRAD BIXLER                                                                                                                 JEFFERSONVILLE

AP high honorable mention all-state and IBCA all-state after averaging 10.4 ppg and 6.5 assists as a senior for Red Devils’ 23-5 state finalist squad… averaged 7 ppg and 7 assists as junior for 22-3 sectional championship team and played 31 games as sophomore for 1993 state championship team… set school records in single-game 3s made, single-game FT%, season 3s made (56) , 2nd in season 3 attempts, 3rd in career assists (456), 3rd in career FT% (81%), 4th in season assists (182), 7th in games played (86), 7th in career 3s made (82), 11th in assists per game and played in 22 IHSAA state tournament games… teams were 74-10 over three years, winning two conference championships, three sectional titles, two regional & semi-state titles, 1995 state finalists and 1993 state champs… totaled 1,246 points and 401 assists in 107 games in four seasons at Bellarmine College, currently ranking 24th in career points, 4th in career FT% (83%), 6th in season 3FG made (70), 2nd in career 3FG made (246), 7th in career steals (118), 5th in career assists (401) and 1st in single-game 3FG made and single-game 3FG%... two-time GLVC all-conference honors and two-time GLVC academic all-conference… was head coach of Atherton (KY) H.S. from 2003-2006, his teams twice finishing as district runner-up… he is an energy broker with TP-ICAP Energy in Louisville and lives in Louisville.

 

 

KEION BROOKS                                                                                             FORT WAYNE NORTH

AP high honorable mention all-state and IBCA all-state after averaging 19.0 points and 5.2 rebounds as a senior on Redskins’ 21-5 regional champions… averaged 13.0 points and 4 assists per game as a junior, totaling 552 career points in two seasons… received 1995 Tiffany Gooden Award, 1995 Nancy Rehm All-Star MVP and member of 1995 Top 40 workout… in 109 career games at Wright State University, scored 1,766 points, earning Midwestern Collegiate Conference all-freshman team honors, followed by three years of MCC all-conference honors (once 2nd team, twice 1st team)… averaged 14.6 points as a sophomore, 17.1 points as junior and 20.7 points as a senior, earning 1999 Wright State Male Athlete of the Year… since 2002 has worked for GM and from 2013-2018 was assistant coach at Fort Wayne North… he resides in Fort Wayne.

 

DUANY DUANY                                                                                            BLOOMINGTON NORTH

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP 3rd team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state and IBCA all-state after averaging 20.4 ppg as a senior and over 20 ppg for three seasons… career totals of 1,571 points, 648 rebounds and 233 blocks in four-year career as 3-time team MVP and earning all-state accolades as a sophomore (21.5 ppg), junior (23.6 ppg) and senior and McDonald’s All-American nomination… played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin and was team captain as senior for Badgers’ 2000 NCAA Final Four team… professional contracts and tryouts in Germany, Norway, Phillipines, USBL and ABA as well as Harlem Globetrotters… is Managing Director of South Sudan Men’s National Basketball Team and senior partner with Rubicon International… he resides in Bloomington.

 

 

MICHAEL EDISON                                                                                                                            PLYMOUTH
1995 Indiana All-Star, AP 2nd team all-state, and IBCA all-state, averaging 21.7 points for 23-3 regional champions as a senior…  AP high honorable mention, IBCA 1st team underclass all-state and Bloomington H-T 2nd team underclass all-state as a junior, averaging 22.0 points for 20-4 sectional champs… totaled 1,655 career points, 396 rebounds, 351 assists and 248 steals, averaging 20+ ppg for three seasons… single-game high of 53 points in 1995 semi-state vs. FW North… 3-time all-area team, 1995 Area Player of the Year, 3-year all-conference, 3-time all-sectional, two-time all-regional and 1995 all-semi-state honors… Totaled 1,257 career points at Bethel College, with his 303 career steals 2nd best in program history, a school-record 10 steals in one game, and a 2.2/1 assist-to-turnover ratio that is 4th best in Bethel history… he was a part of teams that were 141-16 in four years, winning 1997 and 1998 NAIA National Championships and 1999 national finalists… since 2009, he has been the head coach at LaVille High School, with nine consecutive winning seasons, two sectional championships (their first in 26 years), a 34-game regular season winning streak and the 1st undefeated regular season in school history (23-0 in 2017-18)… he resides in Plymouth.

 

 

ALAN ELDRIDGE                                                                                             FORT WAYNE WAYNE

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP high honorable mention all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state and 1995 Fort Wayne News Sentinel Player of the Year after averaging 20.7 ppg as a senior… IBCA 1st team underclass all-state as a junior after averaging 15.6 points for 20-6 sectional championship squad… 955 points and 348 assists in 60 career games in three seasons… played in 131 games in four seasons at Purdue University, with career totals of 664 points, 280 rebounds and 311 assists… averaged 7 ppg over junior and senior seasons for Purdue teams that made 1998 and 1999 NCAA Sweet 16 appearances and was freshman on Purdue’s 1995-96 Big Ten champions… earned MBA and has been employed in business and retail, currently Director of Distribution for TBC and owner of 19twenty, leadership and development coach… he resides in West Palm Beach, Florida.

 

DAMON FRIERSON                                                                                                                        BEN DAVIS

1995 Mr. Basketball, Indiana All-Star, Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year, McDonald’s All-American, AP 1st team all-state, Indianapolis News 1st team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state, IBCA all-state, Marion County Player of the Year and Metro Player of the Year after averaging 20.4 ppg for 32-1 state champions as a senior… set Ben Davis season (661) and career (1,452) scoring records in three-year varsity career, also earning 1994 AP 1st team all-state, 1993 AP high honorable mention all-state and 1994 & 1993 1st team underclass all-state honors as a member of teams that were 86-7 making three consecutive state finals appearances and winning three straight Marion County titles… scored 1,644 career points in 119 games at Miami (OH) University, earning two-time MAC all-conference honors… Miami teams won two MAC titles, one MAC Tournament title and reached 1999 NCAA Sweet 16… he played professionally in Belgium, Slovenia and Bosnia… he is now special assistant in the Miami men’s basketball program… he resides in Oxford, Ohio.

 

 

CHUCK GILBERT                                                                                                                         CATHEDRAL

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP honorable mention all-state and IBCA honorable mention all-state after averaging 15.5 points for 23-3 sectional champions as a senior… was a member of Cathedral’s 19-4 sectional champions as a junior in the 1993-94 season, averaging 5.3 points… attended James Madison University for one season before completing career at the University of Indianapolis, averaging 14.4 points as a junior and 14.0 points as a senior… a relationship manager with Star Financial… he resides in Indianapolis.

 

 

KYLE HUCKEBY                                                                                                          NEW CASTLE

AP high honorable mention, IBCA all-state and Muncie Star Player of the Year, averaging 20.4 points and 8.3 rebounds as senior for 24-3 regional champions… earned IBCA 1st team underclass all-state and Bloomington H-T 3rd team underclass all-state as junior, averaging 20.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists for 18-7 sectional champion team… totaled 1,633 career points, graduating 3rd in New Castle history and 10th in North Central Conference history… voted to New Castle all-century team and 1990’s all-decade team… averaged over 20 ppg in junior and senior seasons on 12 FG attempts per game… walked on at Ball State, but underwent preseason back surgery that never allowed him to play again… employed in farming, since 2011 he has been the owner-operator of Huckeby Trucking… he resides in New Castle.

 

 

COURTNEY JAMES                                                                                                                              BEN DAVIS

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP 1st team all-state, Indianapolis News 1st team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state and IBCA all-state after averaging 16.7 ppg for 32-1 state champions as a senior… averaged 16.2 points as a junior for Pike H.S. and 16.6 as a sophomore at Pike… averaged 7.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game as freshman at University of Minnesota and 8.4 points and 7.2 rebounds as a sophomore for Gophers’ 31-4 Big Ten champions and NCAA Final Four squad, totaling 512 points (7.8 ppg) and 458 rebounds (7.0 rpg) in his two-year career…played professionally in CBA from 1998-2002 with Gary Steelheads and Dakota Wizards, being named 1st team all-rookie team, earning two-time CBA all-star honors, winning CBA championship with Dakota and recording four triple-doubles in his CBA career… he is currently a behavior specialist and case manager at Indianapolis Washington High School… he resides in Indianapolis.

 

 

T.J. LUX                                                                                                                             MERRILLVILLE

1995 Indiana All-Star, 1995 Trester Award winner, AP 3rd team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state, IBCA all-state and academic all-state after averaging 18.8 points and 8 rebounds for 27-2 state runners-up… averaged 13 ppg and 8 rebounds as a junior for Pirates’ 1994 17-7 sectional championship team… earned all-conference, all-area and Northwest Indiana Student-Athlete of the Year awards and was named all-state in tennis… re-wrote record book at Northern Illinois University including career scoring (1,996) and career rebounding (1,110) records, as well as top ten rankings in program history with 116 games played, 156 blocks and 130 steals… he was four-time 1st team all-conference, three-time Academic All-American and the 2000 Academic All-American Player of the Year… he played professionally for seven seasons in Germany and France, twice being named League MVP, once runner-up for League MVP and earning two all-star honors… he coached at Merrillville High School from 2009-2019, including leading them to three conference titles, three sectional titles and two regional titles  in seven seasons as head coach… he resides in Crown Point.

 

 

JACK OWENS                                                                                   INDIANAPOLIS WASHINGTON

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP high-honorable mention all-state, Indianapolis News 2nd team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state and IBCA all-state after averaging 16.7 points and 7 assists per game as a senior for the Continentals’ 24-2 sectional championship team… averaged 14.7 points as junior, 14.4 points as sophomore and 11.1 points as freshman at Washington for teams that won two Indianapolis City championships and two IPS conference titles… played freshman college season at Murray State, sophomore at Howard Junior College, then excelled at Eastern Illinois, totaling 653 points in two seasons, averaging 5.0 assists, earning 1999 Team MVP,  Defensive Player of the Year awards and leading the Ohio Valley Conference in assists (5.4 per game)… he has made a career in coaching, as an assistant at Howard CC, Barton CC, Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois and Purdue, and since 2017 has been the head coach at Miami (OH) University… he resides in Oxford, Ohio.

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP 3rd team all-state, Indianapolis News 2nd team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state and IBCA all-state averaging 14.5 points per game for 32-1 state champions as a senior… set Ben Davis records in career games (93), career rebounds (686) and season FG% (70%) and totaled 1,025 career points in three seasons… was AP high honorable mention all-state as a junior, averaging 13.4 ppg for 27-3 state finalists… earned all-county, all-metro, all-sectional, all-regional, all-semi-state and McDonald’s All-American honors as part of teams that were 86-7 while winning three Marion County titles, three sectionals, three regionals, three semi-states and the 1995 state title… played one season at Northern Illinois University, averaging 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game… employed in social services, he works at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center and with Open Doors Youth Services… he lives in New Albany.

 

 

CHAD PECKINPAUGH                                                                                                         McCUTCHEON

                1995 Indiana All-Star, AP high honorable mention all-state, IBCA all-state and Lafayette Area Player of the Year after averaging 22.9 points per game for 20-5 regional champions as a senior… earned AP honorable mention all-state honors as a junior, scoring 17.4 points per game for 23-3 regional champions… totaled 1,203 career points in three seasons, setting 21 school records… single-game high of 58 points was the highest in Indiana high school boys basketball in the 1990s… played in 65 games in three seasons at Eastern Illinois University, averaging 7.6 points and 4.6 assist per game, including sophomore averages of 10.4 points and 7.3 assists (5th in nation for assists per game; set EIU record of 18 assists in one game)… completed career at University of Indianapolis averaging 7.4 points and 3.5 assists as a senior… college career totals of 92 games played, 693 points and 396 assists… employed in banking and mortgage funding, he spent 13 seasons as JV and assistant coach at McCutcheon before being named the head coach at Clinton Prairie this season… he resides in Lafayette.

AP high honorable mention all-state, Indianapolis News 3rd team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team small school all-state, IBCA honorable mention all-state, Indianapolis 1st team all-city, two-time all-metro, three-time all-Marion County and four-year all-Mid-State Conference after averaging 28.7 points (2nd in state), 7.6 rebounds and 8.7 assists as senior for the Hornets’ 18-5 team… set school scoring record of 1,855 points and set gym single-game record of 50 points his senior year vs. Whiteland and was named by Indiana High School Record Book 1995 “Most Complete Player”… was Bloomington H-T 3rd team underclass all-state after averaging 22.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists as a junior for 16-6 squad… averaged 20.1 points and 6.6 assists as sophomore and 14.7 points and 6.5 assists as freshman for sectional championship team… set records in two years at Allegany Junior College, totaling over 1,500 points and setting season 3FG made (135) and career 3FG made (305) marks… was 2nd team JUCO All-American and NJCAA all-tournament team… played two seasons at Hofstra University, two seasons in USBL and coached two seasons at NCAA D2 Adelphi University… head coach of Beech Grove H.S. boys varsity, leading them to 18-8 regional finalist season last year… he resides in Indianapolis.

 

 

 

 

ERIC RIGGS                                                                                                                         BROWNSBURG

1995 Indiana All-Star, AP 2nd team all-state, Indianapolis News 1st team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state, IBCA all-state, USA Today Indiana 1st team and Suburban Male Athlete of the Year after averaging 25.4 ppg as a senior for Bulldogs’ 24-3 regional champions… earned Bloomington H-T and IBCA underclass all-state honors as a junior after averaging 21.8 ppg for 20-5 regional champs in 1993-94… averaged 17.1 ppg as a sophomore… played one season at University of Central Florida, earning all-newcomer team and TAAC conference all-tournament team honors as well as honorable mention Freshman All-American honors from Basketball Weekly… college basketball career ended when he was selected in the 4th round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers… he played professional baseball for 10 years with the Dodgers, Astros and Marlins… currently a sales pro with BSN Sports… he resides in Noblesville.

 

 

BRAD STEVENS                                                                                                                          ZIONSVILLE

AP honorable mention all-state, Bloomington H-T 3rd team small school all-state, IBCA honorable mention all-state, Indianapolis all-metro team, IBCA 1st team academic all-state, sectional MVP and all-conference honors after averaging 26.8 points for 13-11 sectional champions his senior season… led state in 1995 sectional scoring, averaging 32.3 ppg leading Eagles to their first sectional title in nine years… set Zionsville career records in points (1,508), assists (491), steals (157) and 3FG made (138)… was three-time all-conference pick… played in all 103 games of four-year career at DePauw University, totaling 791 points, earning Coaches Award as a senior and three-time Academic All-American nominee… as head coach of Butler University from 2007-2013, he led them to a 166-49 record, five NCAA Tournament appearances, four Horizon League championships, and back-to-back national runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2011 and earned two-time Horizon League Coach of the Year and 2011 National Coach of the Year awards… in his 7th season as head coach of the Boston Celtics, had a 270-222 NBA record in his first six seasons, making two Eastern Conference Finals appearances and earning 2017 NBA All-Star Game head coaching duties… he resides in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

 

 

MARCUS WILSON                                                                                        SOUTH BEND RILEY

AP 3rd team all-state, Bloomington H-T 1st team all-state and IBCA all-state after averaging 21.3 points for 19-5 sectional champions his senior season… was 1994 AP honorable mention all-state as a junior, averaging 21.5 ppg and averaged 15.5 points as a sophomore, to total 1,385 career points… two-time team MVP set school records in career FT% (.856), season FT% (.871), season FT made (122), single-game FT (16-16) and single-game FT% (1.000)… became Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year (1999) at the University of Evansville, scoring 2,053 points in 119 games in four years… set UE record for consecutive FTs made (48) and tied NCAA record with 9-9 3FGs, while earning three-time MVC all-conference honors and later being named to the UE all-time team, UE Athletics Hall of Fame and one of the 50 Greatest Players in Missouri Valley Conference history… played professionally for 11 seasons, including the Utah Jazz summer league team, Venezuala, France and Ukraine… spent three seasons as Video Coordinator for St. Louis University men’s basketball program… since 2016 has been Executive Director of YMCA of Greater St. Louis… he resides in St. Louis, Missouri.
