Newton County’s Alexxys Standish has been crowned Miss Indiana State Fair 2024.

The Indiana University student was selected Sunday over more than 80 contestants at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. She is the first representative from the northwestern Indiana county to receive the honor.

The Indiana State Fair Queen plays a key role in promoting the Indiana State Fair by traveling nearly 6,500 miles during June and July to approximately 45 counties in preparation for the 2024 Indiana State Fair, scheduled to run from Aug. 2-18.

Standish’s goal is to work in the occupational therapy field. She plans to pursue a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at Indiana University Indianapolis, specializing in pediatrics to help children with routine activities.

Other county representatives honored Sunday were:

• 1^st runner up – Mara Narayan, Elkhart County
• 2^nd runner-up – Sadie Herring, Vigo County
• 3^rd runner-up – Alex Kerkhove, White County
• 4^th runner-up – Hannah Martinez, Steuben County
• Miss Congeniality – Avery Shrider, Wabash County
