The City of Shelbyville MS4 Department’s Tree Giveaway is Saturday at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville.
Trees available will be:
- Red Pine
- Virginia Pine
- Red Oak
- Tulip
- Bald Cypress
- Chestnut Oak
- Shagbark Hickory
- Buttonbush
- Silky Dogwood
- Black Chokeberry
The tree giveaway will begin at 8:30 a.m. near the Splash Pad at Blue River Memorial Park, 725 Lee Boulevard in Shelbyville. No trees will be secured until after the start of the Tree Trot 5K in the park.
To participate in the 5K, registration ($50 fee) begins Saturday at 7 a.m. at the Blue River Memorial Park shelter house. The race begins at 8:15 a.m.
Age group (male and female) winners receive a plotted tree sapling and a handmade medal.
Tree Trot proceeds go toward purchasing large trees that will be planted at Blue River Memorial Park.
