Billy Joe Lynn, 82, a lifelong Dugger resident

Billy Joe Lynn, 82, a lifelong Dugger resident passed away Friday, December 11, 2020, at Breckenridge Health and Rehabilitation in Sullivan.


He was born April 24, 1938, in Dugger, the only child of Harvey William and Betty Rose (Turpen) Lynn. On December 20, 1959, he married his wife of 60 years, Adrienne “Sue” Elkins, and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2020.


Bill is survived by his daughters, Lana Freeman and husband, Mike, of Morristown, and Lori Hunt and husband, Matt, of Avon; son, Levi Lynn and wife, Tonya of Dugger; grandchildren, Brock Hunt, Brandon Hunt, Bryce Hunt and wife, Courtney, Alyssa Lynn, Alexis Lynn, Keagan Lynn, Deacon Lynn, Mason Lynn, Jaxston Lynn, Daymeon Alsman, Kate Alsman and Corbyn Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Addalynn Hunt and Jaxon Hunt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Terry Burgess, of Switz City; several cousins including Lee Richardson and Donnie Richardson, nieces and nephews; and close family and friends, Suzanne and Andrew Hamilton, Cammy Misner and Gene Talpas, who helped them along the way, as well as, John Terhune, who introduced them.

In addition to Sue, Bill was preceded in death by his parents.


Bill was a 1956 graduate of Union High School in Dugger.


He was a member of the First Christian Church and a 50 plus year member of the F&AM Dugger Masonic Lodge Number 721.


Bill was a school bus driver, for 40 years, for the Northeast School Corporation and Dugger Community School, driving both a route and taking children on many trips. He was also a custodian at the Dugger schools for numerous years.


Bill was formerly a co-owner of Lynn’s Marathon Service Station and Wrecker Service. In his younger days, Bill enjoyed officiating softball games. He also enjoyed visiting with the neighbors and tinkering in his garage.


He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was very dedicated to his family, often working numerous jobs to make certain his family was well provided for. He and Sue have left a legacy of love and devotion for their family.


Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the First Christian Church, 8175 E. Main St. in Dugger.


Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with Rev. Jerry Carmichael officiating.

Interment will be at Dugger Cemetery in Dugger.


Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.


Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines requiring a mask and social distancing will be observed.
