Wendell E. Adkins, 80, of Shelbyville

Wendell E. Adkins, 80, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at his residence.

 

He was born October 22, 1940 in Squib, KY to Henry C. Adkins and Idella (Taylor) Adkins.

 

Wendell lived in Shelby County most of his life, moving here in his childhood years. He was a maintenance worker for the Indiana Department of Highway for 33 years, retiring in 2006.  He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and family get togethers.  Wendell loved driving through the country with the love of his life, Dottie.  His dogs were his precious friends.

 

He married Dorothy “Dottie” (Beyer) Adkins on June, 26, 1965, and she survives.

 

Wendell is also survived by his daughter Barbara A. Purtlebaugh (husband, Chris); son Anthony L. “Tony” Adkins (wife, Deidra); grandchildren, Amanda Adkins, Natasha Whitaker, and Krystal Walterman; his sister, Lucille Gaddis; great-grandchildren, Christopher Parrish, Stephanie Parrish, Colton Parrish, and Annabelle Parrish, and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and daughter-in-law, Jonie Adkins.

 

Visitation will be Friday, December 18, 2020 from 10 a.m. to Noon at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

 

Funeral services will follow at Noon at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Miller Cemetery.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, CDC guidelines requiring a mask and social distancing will be observed. 

  

Funeral Directors, Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Wendell’s family.

 

Memorial contributions may be given to the Shelby County Animal Shelter, 705 Hale Road,

Shelbyville, IN 46176.
